Sheinelle Jones Gets Emotional Over Fan Reaction to ‘Today’ Rockettes Performance

Sheinelle Jones unexpectedly inspired fans with her latest Today Halloween performance.

The Today cast celebrated NBC‘s 100th anniversary during their annual Halloween episode on Friday, October 30, dressing as iconic characters and figures from throughout the network’s history. For the episode, Jones channeled her Radio City Rockette and performed an impressive routine with members of the famous dance troupe.

Jenna Bush Hager gushed over Jones’ performance on the Monday, November 2, episode of Today With Jenna & Sheinelle. “I loved looking at social media after our Halloween extravaganza because there was so many lovely comments. I think we have some,” she said. “There was so much for you about what your performance meant to people.”

The show went on to share social media clips of people praising Jones’ dance skills, including one fan who said, “This morning, to see fellow tiny person Sheinelle not only be a Rockette but be the center of attention Rockette, the main Rockette, and rock it out, I burst into tears. To see somebody my height doing the dream dance job, even if it was just for a minute, it was like the dream realized.”

In a second clip, another fan stated, “We know how hard you’re working, and we see all that you are doing. And you are continuing to kick and scream and share your joy and energy with the world. And I just wanted to say, thank you.”

Bush Hager said she saw the latter video online, adding, “It was so heartfelt and beautiful.” Jones, for her part, said she “cried” upon watching the second clip for the first time. “It’s so beautiful, and she said, you know, ‘We see you,’” she said.

Jones got emotional while sharing her appreciation. “What day was tough for me? Sunday. And so, I saw that, and I’m like, ‘Oh, my gosh. I am having a tough day today.’ So, I felt seen,” she told Bush Hager. “And I completely underestimated the number of petite girls in the country who were like, ‘Yeah!” Bush Hager joked that Jones is the “queen of the short queens.”

Jones is no stranger to showing off her dance skills on Today, but her Rockettes performance brought new challenges. While the Rockette dancers kicked to their eye level, Jones had to kick higher to match the height of their legs.

“That mid-level kick, I’m having to go a little higher. My hamstrings are like, ‘Stop it! Stop it! Stop it! Stop it!’” she quipped. “And that last one, ‘Ugh!’” Bush Hager said she was glad her co-host “didn’t pull a muscle.”

In a Friday Instagram post, Jones described her Halloween performance as the “most challenging routine” she’s ever done on Today. “I did this for the little girl in me from Kansas who grew up taking dance lessons,” she wrote. “Thank you @radiocitymusichall and the @therockettes for inviting me to join you this morning on @todayshow! You ladies are INCREDIBLE dancers and I can’t wait to see this year’s show! And – to our viewers – thank you for cheering me on. Today was a day filled with such joy! Love you guys!”
