What To Know
- CNN anchor Abby Phillip laughed at Scott Jennings as he struggled to defend Donald Trump’s attempt to add his name to the Kennedy Center.
- A judge ruled that adding Trump’s name to the John F. Kennedy Center was unlawful.
- Jennings argued critics are motivated by opposition to Trump rather than legal concerns.
CNN anchor Abby Phillip couldn’t help but laugh at conservative commentator Scott Jennings on Friday (June 12) as he failed to defend Donald Trump‘s decision to add his name to the Kennedy Center.
The discussion came after the president’s name was removed from the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts on Friday, following a federal judge’s order that found the name was added to the venue unlawfully. The Trump administration is now appealing the judge’s ruling.
“I mean, is the entire government supposed to be working to make this one man feel good about himself?” Phillip asked on Friday’s edition of CNN NewsNight as the panel discussed the appeal.
“Are we upset that the president of the United States took an interest in the Kennedy Center?” Jennings responded.
“A lot of people are upset about that, yes,” Phillip replied.
“But why?” Jennings said. “Why would they be upset about it? I’ll answer my own question. They’ve never been able to stand the fact that Donald Trump won the White House the first time, and especially the second time, and they don’t want him to exercise any power, large or small.”
Phillip interrupted Jennings, telling him, “How about Congress established the Kennedy Center as a memorial for John F. Kennedy, and that it is illegal for him to slap his name on it? That is why people are upset about it.”
As Jennings continued to defend his point, Phillip asked, “What about the law, Scott?”
“What about it?” Jennings fired back.
“What about?!” Phillip repeated before breaking into laughter.
“Who cares?” Jennings continued. “You can’t get the government on the phone after 3 o’clock on a Friday, yet we can build scaffolding to scrape a name off the side of a building?”
Phillip countered Jennings’ point, saying, “They built scaffolding to put a name on the side of the building, so they can’t build it to take it down?”
“This is what Democrats do for fun on a Friday night,” the MAGA mouthpiece added. “These haters stand out on the street screeching about a name.”

When will Jennings have a backbone and say something that might not be what the president is thinking!

I guess the same time You ever disagree with Colbert and Kimmel instead of devouring every single thing they say.

Jennings should restrict himself to voicing points of view that are not so obviously ridiculous and without merit, unless he really doesn't mind playing the fool.

trumpty-dumpty didn't simply 'take an interest' in the Kennedy Center. He attempted to take it over and run it himself, for his own benefit. The man has NO CLASS.

You only 'understand' what certain 'news' outlets tell you. The Kennedy Center was perfectly fine and fiscally healthy... until 2025. Read resources that aren't fox, or oan or one of those right-wing 'influencers.'

Trump didn't even attend the Kennedy Center Honors during his first term because of certain honorees publicly expressing discomfort in being near him. So he decides to take control of the institution himself during his second so he can pick the honorees and be comfortable sitting next to them in the balcony during the festivities. It was all about putting a good public face concerning the entire affair. No way he wants to make himself look bad, oh no, we can't have that!
