‘Hulk’ Star Lou Ferrigno Stuns With Youthful Looks 36 Years After Last Playing Green Goliath

The Incredible Hulk star Lou Ferrigno recently stepped out for a comic book convention — and the actor stunned with his youthful looks 36 years after last playing the physical Green Goliath.

On Saturday, June 6, Ferrigno, 74, attended Niagara Falls Comic Con in Niagara Falls, Ontario. He posed for photos at the event, held at the Niagara Falls Convention Centre. And the bodybuilder could have easily passed for someone decades younger. Take a look!

Ferrigno played Dr. Bruce Banner (who morphed into the green superhero after accidental exposure to a large dose of gamma radiation) in The Incredible Hulk TV series from 1977 to 1982. After the show ended, he reprised his role in TV movies; the last time he donned the green full-body makeup to play the physical Hulk was in 1990’s The Death of the Incredible Hulk. Additionally, Ferrigno made cameos as a security guard in 2003’s Hulk and 2008’s The Incredible Hulk, also providing voice work for the latter.

The actor memorably went on to play a fictional version of himself in 18 episodes of The King of Queens from 2000 to 2007.

During an interview with Free Press Houston, Ferrigno explained that a different actor was originally tapped to play his iconic character.

“It was 1977. They were filming the Incredible Hulk pilot. Richard Kiel was supposed to play the Hulk, but the director came on the set one day and said it’s not the Hulk,” he explained. “Richard Kiel was tall, but he wasn’t muscular enough.”

Ferrigno continued, “The Hulk was supposed to be muscular. They did a nationwide casting call and found me. I did a screen test to show emotion and the rest is history.”

Additionally, he reflected on his deep connection with the character.

“It’s about power. Every one of us has a little Hulk inside,” Ferrigno shared. “I was introverted as a child, picked on and beat up. I was frustrated because I was weak and couldn’t fight back. I thought if I were powerful like the Hulk I could defend myself. The Hulk is not just a monster, he’s sensitive and I identified with that.”
