Nancy Guthrie Case: Cop Details Why She May Have Known Her Kidnapper

What To Know

  • Retired police officer Charles Brewer has suggested that Nancy Guthrie’s alleged kidnapping may have been motivated by something other than money.
  • Brewer pointed to the lack of meaningful ransom negotiations, untouched funds, and chaotic communications.
  • Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos has publicly cleared the Guthrie family of any involvement.

As the Nancy Guthrie investigation approaches its fifth month with no significant updates or potential suspects, a retired law enforcement officer has suggested the alleged kidnapper(s) may have had other motives besides money.

Former cop Charles Brewer, who has been closely following Nancy’s case on his YouTube channel, posited a new theory in his recent video titled “Nancy Guthrie Case: We May Have Been Looking At The Wrong Person.” In the 21-minute video, Brewer aired his doubts about money being the key motivation for the crime.

Nancy, the 84-year-old mother of Today’s Savannah Guthrie, has been missing since February 1, when police believe she was abducted from her home in Tucson, Arizona. Investigators have released doorbell camera footage of a masked suspect and sent DNA for testing at the FBI lab in Quantico, but no suspects have been named.

While many have suspected the alleged abduction was financially motivated due to Savannah’s TV star status, Brewer offered an alternative viewpoint. “If this truly was a celebrity-targeted kidnapping connected directly to Savannah Guthrie, why has there been no meaningful ransom communication?” he asked, per Men’s Journal.

He continued, “Why leave over a million dollars untouched? Why create ransom-style messages that reportedly make little sense? Why no sustained negotiations or proof of life, no sophisticated extortion strategy?”

“Because if somebody kidnaps for money, money usually becomes the priority,” Brewer added. “But here the behavior feels chaotic, disconnected, even emotionally driven, or possibly connected to something far more personal than the public originally believed.”

Early in the case, an alleged ransom note was sent to TMZ and other outlets offering to return Nancy in exchange for the cryptocurrency Bitcoin. According to TMZ, the value of the Bitcoin demanded was in the “millions,” and the wallet address provided in the letter was legitimate.

Other alleged ransom notes and letters were sent later in the investigation, though their authenticity has been questioned. This included a letter where the sender allegedly apologized, claiming they didn’t realize how serious Nancy’s heart condition was and that she had “gone to be with God.”

Brewer stated that he wasn’t pointing fingers at anyone specific, including Nancy’s family, but he said that investigators should consider a potential emotional connection to Nancy or the Guthrie family.

“Listen, if the public, including myself, was comfortable enough early on in discussing whether this crime was connected to Savannah Guthrie’s fame, her wealth, and public visibility, then it is equally reasonable to ask whether this case may somehow connect to someone else inside Nancy’s immediate world,” he said.

He continued, “Not necessarily family directly, but maybe somebody connected to them like a friend, an associate, maybe a business relationship, or what about a debt? A dangerous person orbiting somewhere close to this family that nobody fully recognized at the time because after more than 100 days, something still feels off. Something still feels untouched.”

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos previously ruled out the Guthrie family’s involvement in Nancy’s disappearance. “The Guthrie family, to include all siblings and spouses, has been cleared as possible suspects,” Nanos said in a February press conference. “The family has been nothing but cooperative and gracious and are victims in this case. To suggest otherwise is not only wrong, it is cruel.”

I think it’s sad that the media has made this about Savannah instead of the person that was taken. It’s funny the last people to see her was her son in law and daughter. I feel in my gut and heart that they either know something or did something

I agree. In the pictures Annie shows no emotion, looking like she was holding her mouth shut. And did her husband come home late? Did he stay in the house till morning. Something about this smells.

From the beginning something has seemed off, not quite true, like something is being kept from the public. Different Investigators need to start from day one again.

Some people are very good actors. Hide their emotions very well. They can pass the police questioning. Someone is familiar with Nancys home, camera, spot lights, etc. Evidently Nancys physical condition is/was

poor. Depriving her of her heart medications, etc, was too much for her to bare. Some one has a cruel conscience and is afraid to expose their self. The money is no longer high priority. Someone is facing a murder crime.

I think our FBI knows, but needs to make the case solid. Respectfully . May 27, 2026

Nacey was took threw the huge water drainage pipe, So she wouldn't be seen. At the end of the drainagepipe a Suv was waiting for them. I believe Once it was aired on the News that( Nacey had a Heart Monitor in her) and she couldbe tracked down that way she was killed not to long after that.

SAVANNAH & HUSBAND HAD NO DOINGS WITH THIS AT ALL..

I know whoever did this knew Nancy. I wouldn’t put it past her daughter Annie and Tomasso. He looks shady as heck..I think it is a low level person. Remember Annie and her hubby like to gamble, could have been a reason.

I am hoping the DNA will come out with a name. Who ever did this should get the death penalty.

No Proof Of Life because Nancy likely died within the first few hours of being abducted. That sabotaged any communication/leverage that the kidnapper(s) had. Game Over

How do we know that Nancy’s house wasn’t staged?

She could have been taken at any time. All we know is a garage opened for 2 minutes supposedly to drop her off.

No 84 year old is going to get out of the car that can’t walk far and do it in 2 minutes

I also feel in my gut that this was jealousy by someone who felt Savanna didn’t deserve her money and didn’t share it with family

Poor Nancy knew at the end who was doing this and how sad for her😪😪😪😪😪😪😪😪😪😪😪😪😪
