What To Know
- HGTV’s Erin Napier celebrated her daughters, Helen and Mae, finishing their homeschool year.
- The Home Town star also shared encouragement for parents considering homeschooling.
- Erin and her husband, Ben Napier, have been open about their decision to homeschool their children.
Erin Napier is officially ready to start the summer season with her family.
In a Wednesday, May 20, Instagram post, the Home Town star announced that her two daughters, Helen and Mae, recently finished the school year. “Somehow, we did it! 2nd grade / k-4 are [done],” she captioned the upload.
Erin and her husband, Ben Napier, homeschool their children at their home in Laurel, Mississippi. In her post, Erin went on to share a message for “parents who think you’d like to homeschool but you’re afraid you can’t.”
She wrote, “If you can find 2 hours a day and ‘open and go’ curriculums, you can do it. These girls are so happy, so good at communicating with all ages and types of people. And we feel like we soaked up every moment of growing up they did, instead of feeling shocked by it each passing week. We found the hack to slowing down childhood.”
The HGTV personality concluded her post by noting that homeschooling is “not for everyone, but it was medicine for our whole family this year.”
Fans reacted to Erin’s education update in the post’s comments, as well as asked questions about homeschooling. “How do children learn to interact with others when they’re at home?” one user asked, to which Erin candidly replied, “We… leave the house.”
Another person wrote, “I think I want to come to the Napier School.” Erin responded, “Come teach them art anytime!”

Someone else shared, “As a teacher of adults studying to get their high school equivalency, please keep math just as important as the other subjects. (Their work looks wonderful, by the way!) I have so many students who said they didn’t get math when homeschooling because their parent didn’t like math. I’m pretty positive you are, I just want to point it out to all homeschooling parents!”
In response, Erin wrote, “She made an almost perfect score on her course assessment for math yesterday. her daddy is excellent at math and she’s loving it.”
Erin’s post featured several photos of her kids’ schoolwork from the past year, including one of her daughter’s math assignment that earned an A.
Erin and Ben previously opened up about their decision to homeschool their kids in a December 2025 interview with People. “It’s not a non-negotiable, it’s what we’re trying this year,” Erin shared. “But they’ve never had devices, they’ve never held phones or tablets or iPads. We’re trying to live like it’s our childhood again.”
She added, “We let them watch things on TV, all of us together as a family. We have a movie night like every night, and it’s not like we don’t have TV time. We’re watching like Berenstain Bears, we watched Prancer this week. So living slower.”
Erin also broke down her and Ben’s homeschooling process in an April 19 Instagram post, noting that the girls do school four days a week, she and Ben split what subjects they teach, and they fill free time with other academic activities and have their daughters participate in artistic and athletic extracurriculars.
“We hope to do this for as long as it serves the girls, and someday send them to high school,” she told her followers. “It has been the best season of our life as a family that I thank God for every night.”
