Scott Foley Breaks His Silence on ‘Will Trent’ Departure

WILL TRENT - “Be of Service” (Disney/Daniel Delgado Jr.) ERIKA CHRISTENSEN, SCOTT FOLEY

What To Know

  • After the Season 4 finale of Will Trent killed off his character in devastating fashion, Scott Foley is speaking out.
  • The actor shared a personal memento from the show and a message to fans.

The finale of Will Trent‘s fourth season saw the team endure yet another devastation as Dr. Seth (Scott Foley) died from his internal injuries after initially surviving a car crash with his new bride Angie (Erika Christensen). The two were en route to deliver their baby, and they were suddenly T-boned on Angie’s side by another car. Though Seth initially appeared unharmed and offered assistance in the field, once he saw Angie safely carted away on a bed, he collapsed and was never seen again.

Dr. Seth joins a growing list of Scott Foley characters to have heartbreaking fates. (Remember Henry Burton from Grey’s Anatomy? Gulp.) And from the actor’s most recent Instagram post, he is taking this goodbye in stride and delivering a warm message of gratitude to the creators and fans of the show.

“What a wonderful gift to receive after a wonderful experience on #willtrent Thanks to the cast and crew, the writers and creators who made the experience so special. This will surely make my wife and daughter say ‘Awww’ each time they pass by and really, that’s enough for me,” he wrote, alongside an image of his name in the show’s title cards being shown above Betty, Will Trent’s (Ramón Rodríguez) prized pooch.

In return, fans flooded his comments with words of praise for his portrayal of the exceedingly decent doctor, who treated Angie with respect and love, gave a timely diagnosis to Michael Ormewood (Jake McLaughlin), and otherwise became a seamless member of the GBI-APD family.

“I was NOT prepared for that! First Amanda, now Seth? What is going on with the writers of Will Trent and why do they hate my favorite characters?!” one fan wrote. “I’m going to miss you on Will Trent. The writers made a big mistake killing you off!!!” another added.

“I knew it was coming because poor Angie can never seem to have consistent happiness, but it made me so sad to lose your character. He was so good and you played him with warmth and humor. You will be missed. Can’t wait to see your next project. Hopefully you won’t be killed off!!” a third fan said.

So unnecessary for writers to kill him off. Was hoping he was going to live happily ever after with Angie.

BTW their car was T-Boned on the passenger side (Angie’s) not the drivers side (Seth’s). Strange that he was hurt more than her.

Have you been in an accident like this? Because I was, at 38.5 weeks pregnant, also hit on the passenger side, on the highway… my fiancé was pretty banged up from the airbags… and much like Seth he declined even being seen until he knew they were checking on me and baby. Luckily he didn’t die, but we were t-boned, hit the far left wall of the highway, bounced off and across 6 other lanes of traffic without being hit again (miraculously), and then finally hit the far left wall which finally stopped the car.

People can get pretty seriously injured from steering columns, airbags, and other things.

          Just for a little perspective.

I knew they needed to do something with Seth because of Scott's other projects in the works. I'm glad there was a finality to it so it gives Angie space to heal and grow. I didn't want there to be a breakup and the whole scenario of coming back on occasion to continue cracking her into pieces. Amanda's death I was not prepared for and it made me not only sad but angry, too. I'm sure the show budget heavily played into the "creative" decision but it was an ugly turn to throw on us fans.

I can’t watch Will Trent anymore. They already broke my heart with Amanda and now Seth. Ugh!

I'm good as long as they don't kill off Betty. I'm done if that ever happens

This season was horrible. Despite having almost nothing in common with the books but the character names, I did enjoy the first two seasons. That's why this season, with it's horrifically poor writing was such a disappointment. The "serial killer in Will's head" plot couldn't possibly been more tedious and annoying. Then Faith hooks up with a criminal, Amanda is gay out of the blue, then killing off a bunch of main characters. Sound like a cocaine decision by lazy writers that have run out of creativity. I'm sad because I used to look forward to this show and now I just can't watch it. I'm sad because the actors are doing their best, but with poor writing like this, what can they do? Another once great show down the drain. If only the show writers had read a little more Karin Slaughter, maybe they could have come up with some decent plotlines.

I agree. I love Will Trent but the plots have gotten worse and horrible. I don’t look forward to it anymore 🥲

Killing off Amanda is a big loss. She carried this show. Not sure how they move forward without her. Guessing the show will end next year.

Didn’t like seeing Amanda killed off the show; she was a great character, and her death seemed unnecessary.

I appreciate Scott Foley’s graciousness, and I enjoyed the lightness that Seth brought to Angie’s life. But the core relationship on the show is Angie and Will, and they didn’t seem to have as much screen time together this season. This will be a sort of reboot to their relationship. I’m sure Will will take his parenting duties very seriously. Looking forward to next season!

I'm sad that Scott is leaving the show. I've admired him since his days on The Unit. I loved his farewell comment.

I love Scott Foley. His part as Seth was funny, kind, cute and just an all around good guy.

I stopped watching this show in the beginning of this season with Will’s “killer thoughts”. I couldn’t take the weird divergence. When I first discovered the show I binged the first season, because I thought it was so great! Second season was good too. But then it just started going downhill. I did really like dr. Seth though, he was great for Angie.

I felt like this was a big mistake! They always seem to get rid of the good ones. Scott bought light and love to the show, poor Angie can get a break! These shows always get rid of the best people and shows! That really SUCKS!!!

Way to soon after Amanda. Literally took my breath away. You guys better have something good coming because I don't know the reasoning behind all this.

Downer on losing both characters, makes me want to skip the show. Among the crazinesses of the will Trent character, those two added warmth and romance

While I love the whole Will/Angie times of romance, I was really enjoying Dr. Seth. He really loved Angie and I had hope for them. I really knew something was going to happen, I read that Amanda was being killed off and so upset about that!! I wonder how her death is going to effect Will in the future. He was ready to kill, and who is the next Director of the GBI?

It opens up so many story telling dynmaics with the leads that it was pretty obvious it was going to happen...so not nearly as sad as The Unit getting cancelled as he was superb in that great show

It took me about half the season to be okay with the fact Will & Angie weren't going to be together. It finally occurred to me this was the best thing for the characters. As a couple there was a lot of tension and it was never really good for either one. With Angie finding someone she could build a different kind of relationship with both she and Will were able to find a different rhythm with each other and be the family they each needed. It was a real bummer to see Seth killed off. Especially after losing Amanda. I don't think Will & Angie should rekindle their romantic relationship.
