A news story took a funny turn on the Thursday, April 2, episode of Today.

During the broadcast, Laura Jarrett reported “some big news for Gmail users,” sharing, “For the first time in the platform’s 22-year history, account holders will now be able to change their Gmail address name. In the past, if you wanted a new name, you’d have to start over with a brand-new account. Important to note here, though, once that change is made, both your old and new Gmail name will work if someone is trying to reach you.”

Noting that “users can change their Gmail address up to three times,” Jarrett added, “So, for those of us who might have had an embarrassing choice…”

Craig Melvin chimed in, asking his cohost, “What was your first email address?” Jarrett replied, “I’m not gonna share my first email address because you can still be reached, as I just read.”

Jarrett quickly realized that her email address was not the information Melvin was looking for. “You’re interested in my AOL screen name,” she stated as Melvin began to chuckle.

Jarrett ultimately gave in to Melvin’s request. “It may have been BSUGA. Yes, I will admit it,” she revealed. “It’s OK. It’s OK. You know what? I peaked at 16. That’s okay.”

Jarrett’s AOL username sent Melvin into a fit of laughter. “BSUGA! Oh, god. That was worth it,” he exclaimed.

Jarrett wrapped up the segment by asking Carson Daly for his own AOL screen name. Pretending to write on a piece of paper, Daly quipped, “I’m gonna try every combination of BSUGA and see what I get.”

Fans reacted to the hilarious on-air moment via social media. “AngieTangie99 & BSUGA 4E! @laurajarrett,” Weekend Today‘s Angie Lassman commented underneath a clip of the segment on Today‘s Instagram page. NBC News correspondent Emilie Ikeda joked, “Hey BSUGA, this is EMBOBEM @laurajarrett.”

One user, “I saw this morning BShuga !!! Have A Blessed Easter Weekend.” Another added, “This was soooo good to see live.” Someone else shared, “BSUGA was probably a TRL fan Carson.”

Another person posted, “I LOVE this, @laurajarrett! – signed, FlyWhiteGuyNJ.” A separate user commented, “We were 16, we didnt know the permanency of these things lol…back then.”

Jarrett has been filling in for Hoda Kotb and other hosts during the first three hours of Today all this week. Kotb has served as Savannah Guthrie‘s main replacement during her ongoing absence due to the disappearance of her mother, Nancy Guthrie. Jarrett and Sheinelle Jones have also filled in for Guthrie at the anchor desk alongside Melvin.

Jarrett’s week-long stint on Today comes after news that her Weekend Today co-anchor, Peter Alexander, will be leaving the Saturday series and moving to a new role on MS NOW.

“Peter, we love you,” she said on Weekend Today‘s Saturday, March 28, episode. “We are going to miss you. We have laughed so hard we want to cry with you. We have learned from you. … Here’s what I know: You are a brilliant journalist, you are a good and decent man, and you are an extraordinary father.”
