‘High Potential’ Fans Are Confused Why Season 2 Is Ending So Soon
What To Know
- Fans of ABC’s High Potential are frustrated by the early April season 2 finale and the show’s irregular airing schedule.
- The season faced interruptions due to a mid-season break, reruns during the Winter Olympics, and the State of the Union address.
- Despite scheduling frustrations, High Potential has seen strong viewership growth and was recently renewed for a third season.
High Potential has been a big hit for ABC, but its fans are frustrated about the second season’s stop/start schedule.
The crime series, which stars Kaitlin Olson as Morgan Gillory, an intellectually gifted cleaning woman who becomes a police consultant, premiered its second season on September 16, 2025, and is set to air its finale on Tuesday, April 7. This is much earlier than other ABC favorites, such as Grey’s Anatomy, 9-1-1, and Will Trent, which don’t finish until May.
“Why is the finale SO early in the spring? Shouldn’t it be in May? I hate that we’ll have to wait for October for more episodes!” wrote one fan on the High Potential Reddit subforum.
“Yeah … everything about the way they mapped out 18 episodes against a full season feels like it was designed to ensure NO ONE was happy!” another said.
“Feels so early compared to other shows,” another added.
Another wrote, “I thought it was odd they aired the Mother’s Day episode in March, when Mother’s Day is around May 15th – about 6 weeks ahead. Wonder if they expected more breaks?”
Season 2 has faced several interruptions, despite having its episode count increased to 18 from the first season’s 13. The show had its mid-season break from November to January, but only returned for five episodes before taking another hiatus in early February.
Throughout February, ABC instead aired reruns of Will Trent in the 9 pm and 10 pm timeslots, per The U.S. Sun. ABC didn’t officially give a reason for the break, though many viewers speculated it was to avoid a clash with NBC’s Winter Olympics coverage.
However, despite the Winter Olympics finishing on February 22, High Potential didn’t return the following week because ABC aired President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address. Instead, it resumed new episodes on March 3.
One viewer didn’t mind the earlier-than-expected finale, explaining, “I’d rather it end now than have unnecessary breaks of weeks at a time throughout the season to have the season end in May.”
Last month, ABC confirmed High Potential had been renewed for a third season, posting on the show’s Instagram page, “The case isn’t closed 🔍 #HighPotential has been renewed for Season 3! Who’s excited?”
High Potential‘s Season 2 audience has continued to grow, pulling in 12.98 million total viewers after seven days of viewing on ABC, Hulu, Hulu on Disney+, and other digital platforms. The show also scored a 2.17 rating among adults 18-49.

What is your definition of "WOKE"? That has absolutely nothing to do with her mixed race. If anything they portray her as more so white with 2 white parents! She wants to know who her biological black father is... How is that portraying her as black. because she befriended the black lady?

It’s really bad. They were so choppy all season 4-6 episodes then a large break. Then another few weeks and then another break. Another few weeks and then the season finale? I would rather do what they did with Will Trent. Who is going to remember this season finale ending 6 months from now.

Very disappointed to find out the new chief who I’ve come to enjoy has been pretty much written out with the cliffhanger last scene. A loss to the show

She’s is not portrayed black, her supposed father is of Latin descent? Everything is not supposed to be racial, it’s who fits or plays the part correctly.

*** lead actress Kaitlin Olson has no desire to max-out @ 20-22 episodes per season because of her long-running commitment to also starring in "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, plus motherhood to her 2 teenage sons ...

I love "High Potential", but the show isn't long enough. It seems I sit down to watch & it's not on! Also, ABC could do better than "Will Trent". It seems the stories are rehashes of other older shows, unlike "High Potential". But, I'd rather that Morgan rebuffs the captain's advances. That story line is too overdone.
Please get more High Potential & less Will Trent..

I love both shows.

How in 2026 are people still confused, upset, etc about how a show is scheduled. Broadcast TV still has the same number of hours to fill but can’t afford to have longer episodes or more episodes. So enjoy what you got or don’t watch!

Quit whining. There’s 18 episodes. Too many draws it out with useless garbage.
