‘Will Trent’: Will Is About to Reckon With His Darkest Moment Yet With Hospital Hostage Crisis (VIDEO)

Will Trent is going to have another hostage crisis in next week’s episode, “A Flag in the Mud,” as the hospital is taken over by an active shooter who demands that her critically injured son get medical attention right away.
In the above preview, we see that Will (Ramón Rodríguez), Seth (Scott Foley), and Angie (Erika Christensen) find themselves trapped in the emergency room as a desperate mom shoots a doctor in the leg and proclaims, “Nobody leaves until my son gets help.”
We then see her put the barrel to Seth’s chest before Will asks her to train the firearm on him. As he works to calm her down, Angie tends to the injured.
Will warns the shooter that her actions will have consequences, and, indeed, outside, the cavalry arrives, with Faith (Iantha Richardson) and Michael Ormewood (Jake McLaughlin) leading the charge. Still, it looks like he will take her pleas to heart as he’s later seen helping Seth rush the young man into surgery and saying, “I made a promise to keep this kid alive.”
The situation somewhat echoes what recently happened over on fellow ABC drama Grey’s Anatomy when an OR was held hostage by a desperate mom demanding surgery for her daughter (with explosive and deadly consequences), but it also harkens back to one of Will’s most upsetting storylines, too. The patient appears to have possibly been the victim of a gunshot wound himself, and given his young age, Will might be reminded of the kid he accidentally shot while defending himself against another perpetrator. Could saving this kid be the absolution he needs to finally free himself of that guilt?
The official description for the episode also reveals that Will will get a warning from someone on a burner phone about somebody from his past coming back into town: “A hospital hostage crisis traps Will, Nico [Cora Lu Tran], and Angie. Outside, Faith, Franklin [Kevin Daniels], and Ormewood hunt the shooter, while a burner call warns that a figure from Will’s past is returning to Atlanta.”
