The fan-favorite will be moving from the fall schedule to the midseason slate, meaning viewers will have to test their patience until the show resumes airing in 2027. This is just the latest major change-up for High Potential as the show recruited two new showrunners to take over for Todd Harthan amid his exit from the position. But fans can rest assured that Morgan Gillory (Kaitlin Olson) will continue to solve crime with her high IQ, assisting her cohorts in the Major Crimes department of the LAPD.

Yes, High Potential was renewed for Season 3. The news was confirmed in a social media post by the show’s official account on Instagram. “The case isn’t closed 🔍 #HighPotential has been renewed for Season 3! Who’s excited?” the caption read over a video featuring the cast.

As previously revealed, High Potential‘s Season 2 audience is stronger than ever, pulling in staggering 12.98 million total viewers after seven days of viewing on ABC, Hulu, Hulu on Disney+, and other digital platforms. The show also scored a 2.17 rating among adults 18-49. The viewership stats are the overall highest for the series.
On a linear, High Potential earned 9.07 million viewers with a 0.76 rating in the 18-49 demo, achieving a series high among total viewers, which was previously held at 9 million. High Potential‘s Season 2 success is notable for having the best seven-day linear performance for an ABC scripted show in over five years, since Grey’s Anatomy in November 2020. In other words, the Season 3 renewal for High Potential was a done deal with numbers like that.
When will High Potential Season 3 premiere?
High Potential Season 3 will be released in 2027 as part of ABC’s midseason rollout, marking a major change in the show’s typical release schedule. For the first two seasons of High Potential, the series premiered in early to mid-September. Mid-Season? Why? It should get extra episodes and start in the Fall. It’s bad enough that this season ended early and now we have to wait until Mid-season? Not fair. Boycotting ABC until Mid-Season when high Potential & Will Trent return.

Fall, 2027? How do you keep momentum going with a year and a half in-between. Personally, I don’t temper characters and plot lines, etc. I was a hating having to sit until Fall of this year. I’m hoping the info was an error. Love the show! can you tell?

I saw that too. Especially odd since the lead up mentioned it would likely follow the same structure as previous seasons airing in fall 2024 and 2025. Hopefully it won't be a whole year :/

Es ist sooo gut, ich hab immer gegoogelt wann wieder neue Folgen kommen. Ich hab mich immer auf den Dienstag gefreut. Das ein paar Folgen erst im Februar kommen, habe ich erst nicht mitbekommen. Vielleicht bisschen mehr verbreiten. Ich könnte noch 10 weitere Staffeln schauen, es ist eine sehr große Empfehlung

Pray High Potential returns for Season 3 even my husband has started watching it this season. It’s isn’t as good since Steve Howey has come aboard but that can certainly be remedied. It’s a great show tantalizing every episode but Howey’s part ruins it every performance he’s in. I’m anxious to find out about her long lost husband. Morgan is a treasure every police department needs!!

I would prefer High Potential season 3 to start sooner than later, but I will wait with bated breath for its return. Please, Daniel Sunjata, don't keep the blond hair! We love you just the way you are (were)....I'd like to see the show explore Morgan's relationship with her father.

Me and my husband love this show. Katlin Olson plays a strong independent woman who isn’t afraid to express herself in many ways. She collaborates well with the team. I was very disappointed with the end of last season. Come on she just started to find a new potential love interest and you kill him off? She can’t catch a break with the men on this show. I hope the next season starts soon. It really seems to be taking a long time between seasons.
