What To Know

  • The creator and cast of Malice express interest in a second season of the Prime Video thriller.
  • Loose ends remain from Season 1, including a storyline that could see Nat and Jules team up to go after Adam — something which both Carice van Houten and Christine Adams are all for.
  • Jack Whitehall has a comedic take on what could be next for his character.

[Warning: The below contains MAJOR spoilers for Malice Season 1.]

Given the way that Malice ended its first season, it feels like there has to be a second. The series has yet to be renewed, but what could one look like?

The first season followed Adam (Jack Whitehall), who insinuated himself into the Tanner family’s lives, all to get revenge against Jamie (David Duchovny) for the role he felt he played in his parents’ deaths. He not only made Jamie suffer, but he also ultimately killed him. The finale ended with Adam leaving Greece behind. Will we see what’s next?

“I hope there will be [a second season],” creator James Wood tells TV Insider.

He also has an idea of what we could see with Adam, should the series continue. “Due to the childhood misery he suffered, we wanted to explore a second family to do with his mother,” Wood continues. “We’ve explored why his father not only died by suicide but killed his mother, but I also think there’s a great story to be done about — for a very different family in a very different location who Jack also blames for his miserable childhood.”

Whitehall interjects with his own suggestion: “I think we should do a second season where I go and start working for another family, but this time I’m great. I don’t do anything nasty, and I’m just a really good manny, and I’ve learned from my mistakes. I just cook, I clean, I help with the kids. I’m lovely.”

Wood jokes, “That sounds gripping.”

Adds Whitehall, “And we make it as a studio sitcom.” Both suggest having a dog, but we don’t know if we’d trust Adam around dogs considering he killed Jamie’s. They agree.

There are still loose ends, like how Jamie’s wife Nat (Carice van Houten) will react to Adam killing her husband — as van Houten tells us, she knew when she heard the sirens — as well as Jules (Christine Adams) having to find out that he also murdered her husband, Damien (Raza Jaffrey), who was the one to do a deep dive into his life.

Both Duchovny and Jaffrey have ruled out a return in a second season — unless it’s “in flashbacks or as a ghost of some kind,” Duchovny jokes. “What am I, at the bottom of the river Thames still having an opinion?” Jaffrey quips.

Both van Houten and Adams are all for their characters teaming up to go after Adam. “I wouldn’t just sit down and do nothing,” says van Houten. “I’ll happily do a Thelma and Louise with Christine — with songs, [with] the kids, sort of Little Miss Sunshine goes Malice.”

Adams, too, wants to see the women as a “dynamic duo.” (Jaffrey suggests like a Cagney and Lacey.)
“Chase him down and go on some wild good chase,” she says. “I’m sure he will be onto his next thing. He’s clearly a very troubled person, and I don’t think this is just about revenge on this person. I think this is a pathology that he has.” She agrees that they’d get something done — “while looking fabulous, obviously.”
