The reports of American Idol‘s death have been greatly exaggerated. Sure, the Fox reality show is now in its 14th season and it’s been a few years since a Carrie Underwood-caliber star has been produced. But this year’s cycle has brought the fun back to the competition, starting with the judging panel of Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and Harry Connick Jr. These superstars seem to genuinely enjoy each other’s company and are invested in each hopeful that walks through the door (One young man was even lucky enough to slow dance with JLo). Producers have also allowed singers to incorporate instruments like guitar and piano into their auditions, often leading to spontaneous jam sessions. Tonight, the Idol bus rolls into its last stop for the year, San Francisco, and the judges make their final decisions on who will make it to the Hollywood Week round. Be there as Idol gets back in tune.
