ABC Renews 'The Middle' for Season 9
ABC announced Wednesday that it has renewed its hit sitcom The Middle for a ninth season. "The Middle has been one of the network's most consistent performers and helped us to launch a whole new night of comedy when it moved to Tuesdays this season," said Channing Dungey, president of ABC Entertainment. "The Indiana Hecks have found America's sweet spot with their authentic, acerbic and always loving take on parenting, work, kids, marriage and life."
The show's fan base clearly has had no problem with its move from Wednesdays to Tuesdays, following it along as it launched a successful comedy block for ABC. The network says The Middle is a "dependable anchor" and has improved its half-hour by 22 percent year-to-year with Total Viewers, and is ABC's most-watched comedy in the Tuesday time period in five years (since the debut season of a similar type of hit, Last Man Standing).
The show stars Patricia Heaton, Neil Flynn, Charlie McDermott, Eden Sher and Atticus Shaffer.
