Super Bowl Halftime Show: What Did You Think of Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige & Kendrick Lamar? (VIDEO)
It wouldn’t be a Super Bowl without a star-studded Halftime Show, and for the 2022 game at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, it was Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg (who will host NBC’s American Song Contest with Kelly Clarkson), Eminem, Mary J. Blige, and Kendrick Lamar.
It was the first time ever that hip hop and rap took center stage in the Halftime Show. Prior to Super Bowl Sunday, Dr. Dre said during a press conference, “We’re gonna open more doors for hip hop artists in the future and making sure that the NFL understands this is what it should have been a long time ago. We’re gonna show exactly how professional we can be, how dope we can be on stage and how exciting we are going to be to the fans.” And, oh did it do that and more.
In a performance featuring the five planned artists plus a surprise appearance from 50 Cent, we were treated to a spectacular set, one that moved from house to house on the field and definitely had the feel of a party. It all kicked off with Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg’s “The Next Episode” and “California Love,” which led into 50 Cent’s “In Da Club.”
Then Mary J. Blige performed “Family Affair” and “No More Drama,” followed by Kendrick Lamar with “Alright.” Eminem (of course) performed “Forget About Dre” before “Lose Yourself.” And the set ended back with Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg for “Still D.R.E.”

Terrible. It was an insult to some of the great artists that sang before them. Really bad.

What a waste of time. . Boring. Didn’t understand the words, or the theme of the show. My 10 year old daughter could choreograph better. Other than having the highly paid stars running around I didn’t know what the message was that they wanted to send.

I could not understand what they were saying in their songs. They should have had some performers who just sing. Why was the whole show hip hop. The dancing was very infantile.

How about some balance. That style is not entertaining to most of the audience. Let them showcase, but not disproportionately.

May is Asian & Pacific Islander month, November is Native American Month, and Hispanics are celebrated from Sept 15 - Oct 15. A simple Google search could have answered your question. And when the shows have been all white performers did you complain about "mixing it up?" I didn't like the show because it's not the music I listen to but those who like that type of music really enjoyed the show.

What a shame that many thought it was a bad show. I enjoyed it, and I'm 65 years young. I really was surprised when 50 Cent came on. He wasn't listed, but really love In Da Club. 🙂

I’m not a rap fan and didn’t enjoy it, but appreciate that it was done professionally ala the way the SB halftime show does stuff. Lots of gen x and millennials love rap and hip hop and I saw many, many positive comments on twitter about it.
It’s getting tougher to find rock acts that have enough well known mainstream songs as (hate to say ) rock fades into the rear view. Foo Fighters seem a natural for one of these years, tho they’d have to add some pop guest stars -and their well known hits.
The last several SB halftimes have been dance-pop stars and it seemed past time for rap/hip hop to get a shot, imho. Even though it’s not for me, it’s been the party music of millions for at least the last 20 years… or longer. I’d also like to see country music artists get an occasional SB halftime show.

I am a 56 year old white woman and this was the first entire SBHTS I have watched. I also danced the entire time. I LOVED it.
I usually hate it and don't watch.
I am really surprised at all the negative comments.

As an older person, I did not understand any of it. I will admit Hip-Hop is not my thing. I didn't even understand why Eneimen took a knee. Sorry, just not for me.
