A unique voice in the realm of stand-up comedy, Ramy Youssef first caught the attention of many viewers with his role on the sitcom "See Dad Run" (Nickelodeon, 2012-14). Born in Queens, New York in 1991 but raised in New Jersey, Youssef's parents were Egyptian immigrants, and his identity as a first-generation American would later play a significant role in his comedy. He became interested in making people laugh after joining a sketch group in high school. Youssef would go on to enroll at Rutgers University, but left before graduating in order to pursue a career as an actor and comedian. He landed the role on "See Dad Run" in 2012, and though the show wrapped in 2014, Youssef was soon cast in the kids TV movie "One Crazy Cruise" (Nickelodeon, 2015). Throughout this period, Youssef was honing his skills as a stand-up comedian, with his efforts bearing significant fruit in 2017 when he was asked to perform on "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" (CBS, 2015-). That same year he was cast in the recurring role of Samar on the techno-thriller series "Mr. Robot" (USA, 2015-). Within two years, Youssef's success led to what some might consider the ultimate achievement: writing and starring on a scripted comedy series based on his own life. "Ramy" (Hulu, 2019-) would premiere on Hulu in 2019 and immediately earned praise from critics not only for its high-quality comedy writing, but for its unique portrayal of a young, hip main character who also happens to be a practicing Muslim.
