The Best John Grisham Adaptations — Where Will the New ‘Rainmaker’ Rank?

Not only does The Rainmaker represent a return to TV drama for USA Network, it also marks yet another time John Grisham’s stories have reached the screen.

“I’ve been very lucky with Hollywood,” the novelist said at a 2023 G&G Reads event. “I’ve had nine movies, and we’ve enjoyed watching all of them.”

(Technically, this master of legal thrillers has been behind 10 big-screen movies — but 2004’s Mickey, a little-seen baseball drama starring Harry Connick Jr., started not with a Grisham novel but with an original screenplay of his.)

Grisham has also had his stories adapted for television a couple of times before the new Rainmaker came along. So, may it please the court, we’re presenting our selections for the best Grisham adaptations from both media… and not every one of the screen transfers makes the cut. (The holiday turkey Christmas With the Kranks, based on Grisham’s Skipping Christmas, need not apply.)

The Rainmaker, Series Premiere, Friday, August 15, 10/9c, USA Network
