Following in the footsteps of Scott Glenn and Denzel Washington, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is the new John Creasy in Netflix’s Man on Fire adaptation.
The Emmy winner (for his supporting role in Watchmen) headlines the new adaptation of the A.J. Quinnell book series of the same name, starring as the PTSD-addled former special forces mercenary who moves to Rio de Janeiro to start a new life but gets dragged into a very violent vengeance tour after his young charge is kidnapped.

The seven-episode series drops on Thursday, April 30.
Who stars in Man on Fire?
In addition to Abdul-Mateen as John Creasy, the series also stars Billie Boullet as Poe Rayburn, Alice Braga as Valeria Melo, Scoot McNairy as Henry Tappan, Paul Ben-Victor as Moncrief, and Bobby Cannavale as Paul Rayburn.
Serving as showrunner, executive producer, and writer on the series is Kyle Killen. The first two episodes are directed by Steven Caple Jr.; the third and fourth by Vincente Amorim; the fifth and sixth by Clare Kilner; and the finale by Michael Cuesta.
What is Man on Fire about?
The official logline for the series tells us, “Based on A.J. Quinnell’s book series, Man on Fire tells the story of John Creasy. Once a high-functioning and skilled Special Forces Mercenary, known for surviving even the most desolate of situations, Creasy is now plagued with intense PTSD. Determined to overcome his personal demons, he sets out on a path to redemption. But, before he can adjust to this new life, he finds himself back in the fire, fighting harder than ever.”
What else is there to know about Man on Fire?
The first season is based on two of Quinnell’s novels: 1980’s Man on Fire and the second Creasy novel, 1992’s The Perfect Kill. (There are three others in the series: The Blue Ring, Black Horn, and Message From Hell.)
