Mariska Hargitay Is Back on ‘SVU’ Set: See Photos of Benson’s Season 28 Look

Mariska Hargitay kept busy during her time off from filming Law & Order: SVU — she made her Broadway debut in Every Brilliant Thing — but she’s back as Captain Olivia Benson with production on Season 28, which premieres on Thursday, October 8, on NBC, underway.

Photos have surfaced of Hargitay, Kelli Giddish (Sergeant Amanda Rollins), and Kevin Kane (Detective Terry Bruno) on set, which you can check out below. While they don’t reveal specific details of the beginning of the season, at least we know that SVU is back at it and there doesn’t seem to be any fallout from Benson fighting to keep her job against Chief Tynan (Noma Dumezweni) last season.

Retirement did come up for both Benson and Sergeant Odafin “Fin” Tutuola (Ice-T) in Season 27, but that’s very much in the past, showrunner Michele Fazekas confirmed to TV Insider after the finale. Instead, Season 28 will see Benson “recommitted” and “not asking that question,” the EP shared.

The series is also showing no sign of slowing down, with Giddish telling us over the summer that she can see it reaching Season 30. “It’s a huge milestone, and Dick Wolf wants it and I think Mariska wants it, and when those two people want something, it gets done,” she said.
