‘SVU’s Mariska Hargitay Takes Final Broadway Bow With Sweet Husband Surprise
What To Know
- Mariska Hargitay completed her Broadway run in the solo show Every Brilliant Thing on July 5.
- Her final performance featured a sweet onstage appearance by her husband, Peter Hermann.
- Production for Law & Order: SVU Season 28 begins soon.
It’s soon going to be time to see Mariska Hargitay as Captain Olivia Benson on Law & Order: SVU once again. The long-running star of the NBC drama did something a bit different in her time off between Seasons 27 and 28, but production will be getting up and running on the series soon. However, she’s only just left behind that new gig: starring on Broadway.
Hargitay starred in Every Brilliant Thing, having made her debut on May 26. Her run lasted through July 5. (She took over from Daniel Radcliffe, and Tracee Ellis Ross makes her debut on July 7. She’ll be in 40 performances through August 9.) In the solo show, “a person looks back at their life and the glimmers of hope that carried them through. All told through a list of every wonderful, beautiful, and delightful thing—big, small, and everything in between—that makes life worth living.”
Throughout her run, Hargitay was joined on stage by friends and family, including her SVU costar Ice-T, and for her last performance, her husband, Peter Hermann. You can see Hargitay and Hermann together on stage in the photo above. Check out photos below of her posing with (a photo of) herself for her final performance as well as her on stage during the curtain call.

The day after her last performance, Hargitay shared a heartfelt post about her time on the Broadway play. These are my brilliant peeps. Love you all and appreciate you all and holding you all in my heart,” she wrote with a heart emoji in the caption. “Miss you already.”

Ahead of her debut in May, Hargitay spoke to People about the challenges of Broadway versus her work on SVU. “It definitely feels like you’re going out without a net, but that’s also the thrill of it,” she said. “Even though I’m still challenged at SVU, I know the drill. I’m a boss lady. I can say, ‘Cut. Sorry guys, let’s go again. Can we take it from the top?’”
Production on Law & Order: SVU Season 28 is slated to begin in a few weeks. “It looks like Mariska will have about a half hour of summer vacation between her final performance of Every Brilliant Thing and her first day back at SVU, so I think it’ll be a nap, some snacks and off she goes,” Hermann told People. “But wherever we do end up during her break, it’s going to involve a lot of doing as little as possible.”
Even though Hargitay has used her break between seasons of SVU to do something new, it doesn’t sound like fans need to worry about her wanting to leave the NBC drama. “The joke is, just when I think I should be winding down, I’m like, ‘No, I’m good for a couple more years!’” she told the outlet in May.
Kelli Giddish seemed to echo that, too, when speaking with TV Insider at the ATX TV Festival at the end of that month. When asked about SVU reaching Season 30, she told us, “Absolutely. It’s a huge milestone, and Dick Wolf wants it and I think Mariska wants it, and when those two people want something, it gets done.”
