‘9-1-1’ Preview Reveals Major Medical Emergency at Dispatch (VIDEO)
Uh-oh, it’s the 9-1-1 dispatchers who are going to need first responders ASAP in the Thursday, March 19, episode of the ABC drama.
There will be “a significant time jump” when 9-1-1 Season 9 Episode 14 picks up, showrunner Tim Minear told TV Insider while discussing Buck (Oliver Stark) and Eddie’s (Ryan Guzman) road trip from hell. And so that’s why we see Eddie back at work, alongside Chimney (Kenneth Choi) and Hen (Aisha Hinds), responding to a call in which someone thinks the house is trying to kill her family. (We know Buck will also be back on duty.)
Meanwhile, back at dispatch, they’re having their own emergency. Maddie (Jennifer Love Hewitt) asks Sue (Debra Christofferson) if she can raise her hand, and then the other woman collapses. As Maddie determines, “muscle weakness, she’s having a stroke.” Uh-oh! But is 9-1-1 about to kill off Sue?! She’s been on the show since Season 1!
Buck and Eddie will be returning to the 118 after they took a detour during their trip home from Nashville after the crossover — with flight problems, they drove back — that resulted in a car crash and Eddie accused by the local sheriff of murdering the missing Buck. He’d been kidnapped by a woman (Melinda McGraw) whose son was in a horrific motorcycle accident and being kept alive by machines; she wanted him to be “Derek.” In the end, Eddie came looking for him, and Buck saved his best friend from being shot.
Now, “you see that their physical manifestation of their injuries is gone, Buck’s back on duty,” Minear told us. “But in [Episode 14], we’ll get into the fallout from Buck kind of not having dealt with things. And I think a lot of it’s really his Bobby grief. I mean, that’s really what I’ve been trying to do. And with Buck, it’s like, yeah, OK, so there’s a crazy psycho woman who wants him to be Derek. That’s all well and good. To me, it’s really about that moment where he says, ‘I lost somebody, and sometimes I don’t know who I am without him, and he’s not coming back.’ That is the first clue that — I want to just resolve some of that for Buck before the end of the season.”
He added that Episode 14 will see Buck and Eddie talking about what happened. “Eddie is concerned that maybe Buck is not fully dealing with the trauma,” the showrunner explained. Buck reacts to being confronted “by deflecting and kind of trying to handle things on his own in his own way, behind closed doors.”
