‘9-1-1’ Season 10 Premiere Photos: Buck & Eddie’s Dinner With Their Kids and Athena in Trouble

It’s the calm before the storm … or rather, volcano. ABC has released photos from the 9-1-1 Season 10 premiere, airing Thursday, October 15, and they do hint at what’s to come that the trailer has already shown (namely, a volcano in the middle of Los Angeles). In other words, it’s exactly what you’d expect from the first episode of a season to tee up the season’s opening emergency.

In this episode, titled (appropriately, of course) “That Sinking Feeling,” ABC teases, “The 118 faces an earth-shattering emergency that shakes the city of Los Angeles to its core. Still finding her footing as a detective, Athena [Angela Bassett] leans on instinct to crack a mysterious new case, while May [Corinne Massiah] finds her own confidence in a new job.”

The photos, which you can check out below, offer a look at Athena visiting her daughter May at work at the hospital (May’s a nurse) before becoming trapped. Meanwhile, Buck (Oliver Stark), who is now fostering Theo, the kid that he helped his late friends to have by being a sperm donor, and Eddie (Ryan Guzman) sit down for dinner with their sons, but it looks like something might go wrong? Why is a hospital trip going to be necessary?

When it comes to Buck fostering, “It’s going as you would expect. It’s heartwarming and very hard, and he’s making some mistakes,” showrunner Tim Minear previously told TV Insider. While Eddie’s “doing what he can to mentor him a little bit in that area, which causes some tension and friction.”

Plus, the 118 deals with a call at an aquarium, which feels like it will end up at least hinting at the danger to come.

“We’re starting with a giant sinkhole that, of course, turns into a volcano,” revealed Minear. That could be what’s going on in the photo of Chimney (Kenneth Choi) and Ravi (Anirudh Pisharody).
