‘9-1-1’ Promo: Bobby’s Funeral, Athena’s Grief & Chimney’s Struggle in ‘The Last Alarm’ (PHOTOS)
The next episode of 9-1-1, airing on Thursday, May 1, may be even tougher to watch than the previous one. Sure, “Lab Rats” featured the absolutely devastating death of Captain Bobby Nash (Peter Krause), but Season 8 Episode 16, titled “The Last Alarm,” is going to show his funeral and how everyone’s grieving (the photos make that clear) — and that means, barring any shocking twists, he’s really dead.
The promo, which you can watch above, offers a look at Bobby’s funeral, with Hen (Aisha Hinds), Chimney (Kenneth Choi), Buck (Oliver Stark), Eddie (Ryan Guzman), and Ravi (Anirudh Pisharody) carrying his coffin. “I experienced a devastating loss,” Bobby’s wife Athena (Angela Bassett) says.
Buck finds Chimney sitting up on the edge of the roof, holding a bottle of vodka. “Nobody blames you,” he says, but Chimney tells him, “I blame him. He gave his life so I could live. I’m just not sure what I’m supposed to do with that.” Watch the rest of the promo to see Hen and Karen (Tracie Thoms) comforting each other as well as more from Athena’s grief.
The logline from ABC reads, “Following the tragic events at the lab, the 118 must come together to lay their fallen hero to rest. Meanwhile, despite her own grief, Athena re-investigates the death of a child to help a grieving mother.”

Bobby died after he, like Chimney, was infected by a super-strain of CCHF (Crimean–Congo hemorrhagic fever) when the 118 was called to a fire in a lab. There was only one dose of the anti-viral, and Bobby knew he was already infected when he gave it to Chimney.
So while everyone will be struggling with their grief (no one will be doing well), “I would say at the center of it, though, is Chimney, who is feeling particularly … he’s got the survivor’s guilt big time,” showrunner Tim Minear told TV Insider. “There’s a moment in there, in the episode, where he gets Bobby to promise to look after Maddie [Jennifer Love Hewitt] because he just assumes he’s not making it out of here. And you can see even through that goddamn face mask, that is the moment that Bobby makes the decision that if there’s a choice to be made Chimney’s walking out and he’s not.”
Minear continued, “So when he says, ‘I promise I will not let anything bad happen to your family,’ he already knows what’s coming. So you have Chimney having Bobby make that promise, and he can’t really do the same for Bobby because I’m not sure Athena’s going to be open to a lot of comfort from the man who’s alive because — not that she blames Chimney, but that’s going to figure in a lot to the last three episodes.”
Everyone will be “leaning on each other and yet they’re all kind of fractured at the same time. Finding an equilibrium for that grief, it was very important for me that I had a run of episodes after the event so that the audience could try to get their bearings with the characters to grieve with the characters,” Tim Minear explained. “So all the stages of grief will be represented in the last three episodes with all the characters.”

I think that when Tim Minear killed off Bobby, he totally killed his ratings...This is a show lots and lots of people had time invested in...We watched, religiously...We know the show is fictional, which is why we were happy with the fact that everyone always survived...I.dont understand why he felt the need to fix what wasn't broken...If he wants to keep most of his viewing audience, he really should bring back Bobby...If he doesn't, season 9 will likely be 911's last season because nobody will want to watch anymore...

I am certainly not ready for the next episodes. I’m sure none of the fans of the show will be ready to watch the heartbreaking scenes coming up. I realize that it’s only “make believe “
But when you invest so many years tuning in, it become a part of you.
I still think Tim Minear made a huge mistake and definitely needs sone solitary confinement for a bit to think it through 😔

not gonna be watching - the 118 is Bobby's house and I won't watch without him in charge. big mistake to kill Captain Bobby, they've lost me completely. Minear must be on an ego trip, thinking he can make the 'creative decision' to kill the Captain. guess we'll see. will be too bad if the show has to be cancelled due to poor ratings after this decision. I'm done!!!

Don’t blame you. I’m not supporting any of his shows any longer, including 9-1-1: Nashville. Captain Bobby Nash didn’t need to die. There were so many ways to be creative without Bobby’s death.

This was never the kind of show that killed off main characters, and the sudden choice to do so now was not a good one. I will not be watching the next three episodes of "trauma porn," because that is not the kind of show I signed up to watch.

I still haven't been able to bring myself to watch the episode of Bobby dying. After seeing all the emails and newsletters and comments everywhere announcing it the day of, I just couldn't do it. I don't think 9-1-1 will be on my playlist any longer just like most if not all of the commentators have said. It was a HUGE mistake! Reality, notwithstanding!

I think if alot of others feel like me that this was a big mess up personally I have gotten really invested in this show watched every episode for years now alot of time invested and to kill off the main leader is not right and is robbing us of all the time we have put into this show if I could id sue for a wast of my time and emotional pain from lab rats . This is a big mistake and I hope that everyone else that loved this show stands up and just doesn't watch it anymore until they figure out how to bring Nash back weather the army took him for test and let's everyone think he's dead or how ever it needs be but bring Nash back somehow im done with it unless it happens I waited a few days to see if I felt the same and I do I hope Tim regrets this decision

Good job on shooting your viewer ratings down. This was a HUGE mistake on Minear's part. He could have let Bobby walk away rather than kill him. It's easier to bring back a role or character when it wasn't actually killed off. This is the most depressing fortnight I've had in a while. I'm failing to come to terms with this😔😞

I hope the ratings drop so low that Minear and ABC learn a lesson. You don't kill off the viewer's favorite person and divide the best husband/wife team. We are intelligent human beings, we know the stories are not real but we enjoy them each week and love the heck out of the characters. They make it enjoyable every single week. So Tim why bother with something that ain't broken. Bobby and Athena are rebuilding their home and their life. So did you just decide one day it's time to kill someone off and poor Bobby drew the unlucky straw. Sorry Tim but that straw is yours now because your ratings are going to plummet because I another great fan has left the building. Thought I could watch the last three episodes but I cannot, I will not and I won't give you the satisfaction of possibly adding to your rating. Sorry Athena and the rest of the crew....I AM OUT!!!

The red headed lab tech will be declared insane(she'll fake it)and sent to a mental rehab. Once there, she'll escape. Athena will spend the next season trying to track her down. And Athena will get her revenge!

Tim Minear made a poor choice by killing off Bobby. Bobby was an important character in the show and a guide to the 118 crew. He was a positive influence on those around him. 9-1-1 was a positive show in a time where we live with a lot of negativity. I can’t see that the creative decision that Tim made is a positive step. I felt good after each show. Now 9-1-1 is going to have a negative vibe dealing with death, guilt, and sadness. How depressing. This is not what I want to watch.

My self , family and lot of friends watch 911 but none of can figure out what the writers are thinking.. killing off Bobbie is one of the dumbest things they could of done. Main character, good character,, was he not gay enough or screwed up enough I dont get it.
Just like CBS cancelling number one show on Fridays, Blue Bloods, seems the networks have no clue what people are watching.

I haven’t been more disappointed and shocked in a show’s decision to graphically and quickly kill off a main character. Captain Bobby was the heart of the show- if it was not his idea to go the idea does not make sense to me. I’m also disappointed in how I watch this as my comfort show but this really turned me off and I will not be watching any further.

I'm not ready for the next 3 episodes, but if anyone had to be killed of then it had to be Bobby. We all know his back story and that he wanted to pass when he had rescued 148 people and it's fitting that he died while doing the thing he loved saving people and not by his own hand and now he can be with his family. Leading up to his death i could feel that someone was going to die and it's been a long time coming they couldn't keep coming back from the brink of death but I did think it would of been Buck. They will probably bring back Eddie and make him the Captain. And/or since so many viewers are upset and are going to quit watching they could say he was with the Army secretly to do testing and make more antidote that the FDA will approve. They had to keep it secret and then they can bring him back. Maybe Athena could figure it out and rescue him, that would be cool.
