Fox Developing Drama Based on Life of Celebrity Chef Sang Yoon

Top Chef Masters - Chef Sang Yoon

The man behind what’s arguably Los Angeles’ best hamburger is now hoping to grill up a new TV show.

Sang Yoon, the chef and proprietor behind L.A.’s famed Father’s Office gastropub, as well as L.A.’s Lukshon restaurant, is the inspiration behind On the Line, a one-hour drama in development at Fox.

Ingrid Escajeda will write and executive produce On the Line, while Yoon will also serve as an executive producer. The script comes from 20th Century Fox TV (the studio behind ABC’s Fresh off the Boat, which is based on the life of another famed chef, Eddie Huang).

Escajeda is currently a co-executive producer on Fox’s Empire. Her script for On the Line is also soapy, and centers on a female celebrity chef named Juna Kim, described as a “man-izing, motorcycle-riding, force-of-nature who must battle the banging and brawling chaos of her restaurant staff, the disdain of her old-school Korean parents, and the return of her estranged ex-husband, all while struggling to push her career beyond the famous burger that made her a star.”

Yoon has been seen as a guest judge on Bravo’s Top Chef and was also a competitor on Top Chef Masters. He made a name for himself by purchasing the dive bar Father’s Office in 2000 and introducing his signature burger (along with a craft brew selection). Today and Esquire have called his burger the best in the nation. He opened Lukshon, which focuses on Southeast Asian flavors, in 2011, and next will open a restaurant in Napa Valley with chef Douglas Keane.

The show is part of Escajeda’s (represented by UTA and Echo Lake Entertainment) overall deal with 20th Century Fox TV.
