Leave it to Oliver Queen to one-up the costumes at this year’s Comic-Con! During the Arrow portion of the Night of DC Entertainment mega-panel celebrating the comic-book shows of Warner Bros. TV, fans got their first look at Oliver’s newly designed attire and it is major.

Over the summer, star Stephen Amell told the audience at a fan event in Philadelphia shortly after Season 3’s finale that he would never be putting on the Arrow’s leather-and-laced up costume again, leading many to believe that Oliver was hanging up his hero garb for good. But as you can see in this photo, Amell simply meant he won’t be putting on the Arrow’s old costume. “It’s a different direction,” costume designer Maya Mani says of the re-imagined gear, which now features a more shroud-like hood, NFL-caliber shoulder pads, protective arm bands and exposed biceps (yay!). What inspires our hero to suit up again is still a secret, but Mani promises that the reasons for the redesign “will make total sense.”

Arrow returns for Season 4 on Wednesday Oct. 7, 8/7c, The CW.
