No car chases, no perp lineups, just detectives grilling suspects.

This series stands out from other crime dramas in that the 12 episodes — which each feature a different person of interest and are set in the U.K., France, Germany, or Spain — take place solely in the interrogation room.

"Some of the biggest breakthroughs in crimes happen [there]," says Jim Field Smith, a co-showrunner of Criminal, with George Kay. "We wanted to embrace that intensity."

The series is set entirely within a police interview suite.

Guest stars playing suspects (including Avengers: Endgame's Hayley Atwell, above, second from right) will keep viewers in suspense throughout. Continues Smith, "We want [people] to be literally leaning forward, trying to determine guilt or innocence for themselves."
