On August 25, Senator John McCain passed away at the age of 81 after a battle with brain cancer. And the former presidential candidate not only left a lasting legacy in politics, but he also made his mark in the television world.

Though he was a serious politician, McCain never missed a chance to poke fun at himself. During his 2008 run against President Obama, McCain appeared a few times on Saturday Night Live, all in good spirits.

The Arizona senator also got in on the NBC hit comedy Parks and Recreation, making a cameo in one of the show’s Washington D.C.-based episodes. From scripted comedies and live sketch shows to talk shows like The View — alongside the show’s co-host and his own daughter Meghan McCain — we’re taking a look back at five of his most memorable TV moments.
