‘Big Little Lies’ Back for Season 2 With New Director
The Monterey ladies are back. HBO has renewed its hit miniseries, Big Little Lies, for a second season … but some behind-the-camera changes are ahead.
Not to worry, though. The show’s two major stars, Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman, are confirmed to be returning and will also serve as producers. The series creator, David E. Kelley, is back to write and produce but a new director will be at the helm: Andrea Arnold. She has previously worked on Transparent and American Honey.
This, of course, means the show loses Jean-Marc Vallée, who directed all of Season One, and won an Emmy for his work. The series took home an impressive eight Emmys in total, including a win for Kidman for Best Actress in a Limited Series and Lead Actress in a Limited Series/Movie.
“I’m excited to announce the return of Big Little Lies,” HBO programming president Casey Bloys said in a statement. “David Kelley wrote beautiful scripts and Reese and Nicole were, once again, a force to be reckoned with, reuniting the cast and recruiting the talented Andrea Arnold to direct. We look forward to working with this amazing group of artists.”
Witherspoon took to Twitter about the news. She posted:

BLL Season One also co-starred Shailene Woodley, Laura Dern, Zoe Kravitz, and Adam Scott, and it’s rumored most of the cast will be returning.
The show was based off the bestselling book Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty.
