‘Empire’ Gets Its First Grammy Nomination

Not content with simply conquering all of television, Empire‘s taking on the actual music industry. That’s because on Monday morning, the show’s first soundtrack, Empire: Season 1, earned a Grammy nomination in the category of best compilation soundtrack for visual media. The album will battle it out against the soundtracks of four feature films: Fifty Shades of Grey, Glen Campbell: I’ll Be Me, Pitch Perfect 2 and Selma.

The show’s soundtrack is already a chart hit, famously stealing the Billboard 200’s top spot from Madonna back in March. The Queen of Pop’s Rebel Heart only managed 120,000 equivalent album units (meaning including digital sales and streaming) to Empire‘s 130,000.

See if Lucious and the gang can pull off another grab when the Grammys air Feb. 15 at 8/7c on CBS.
