It will be a night to remember—and not in a good way. The Thursday, October 12, episode of CBS’s The Young and the Restless finds the glitterati of Genoa City gathered to applaud Ashley Abbott (Eileen Davidson) for winning the Cosmetics Industry Innovator of the Year Award—an honor that’s especially meaningful because her late father, John, won the same prize many years ago.

But our gal Ashley has more on her mind than collecting a nice piece of hardware: She plans to use this posh occasion to confront conniving Graham Bloodworth (Max Shippee) about his intentions toward her aging and vulnerable mother, Dina (Marla Adams). But little does Ashley know, Graham is coming to the party with his own agenda—to take her down with a shocking Abbott family secret!

    This is the type of story that has driven soaps for years, going back to "GL", "Love of Life", "Search For Tomorrow", "The Secret Storm" (where Marla Adams played the lead character's main rival), etc., even as far back as radio. It is potent, family drama that has the potential to be one of the best stories on soaps since they began to fall out of favor. Everybody is doing a magnificent job in this story. I'd like ghost John to visit Dina to reveal that he knows all through his other-worldly life yet forgives her. When somebody is at peace, the issues of their earthly past do not matter. John was Ashley's father in every way that mattered, and this is Eileen Davidson's best work on "Y&R" since she had the breakdown after finding out about Brent Davis over 30 years ago.
