Mila Kunis, Reese Witherspoon Producing Drama Projects at ABC
ABC is getting into the development business with Mila Kunis and Reese Witherspoon.
Both actresses have sold separate drama projects to the network with veteran writers attached as creators.
Javier Grillo Marxuach (The 100, Middlemen) is behind Black Stiletto, based on the novels by Raymond Benson. The drama follows the tale of a young woman who turns into a “modern day hero” when a family secret is revealed. (In the book, a man discovers that his mother was a famed 1950s vigilante who battled Communist spies, took on the Mafia, and preyed on common crooks.)
Kunis will executive produce Black Stiletto with Marxuach through her Orchard Farms Productions label. Cami Curtis, Susan Curtis, Lisa Sterbakov, Tony Eldridge and Nancy Moonves are also executive producers. Black Stiletto was first released as a book in September 2011; four sequels followed.
As for Witherspoon, her production company Pacific Standard has partnered with Rob Long (Cheers) to produce a mystery about the relationship between a billionaire, acquitted for the murder of his wife and her lover, and the female detective who tried to have him convicted.
Long will executive produce with Rick Porras, Witherspoon and Bruna Papandrea. Long’s credits also include Sullivan & Son and the books Conversations with My Agent and Set Up, Joke, Set Up, Joke. He’s also a commentator on KCRW.
ABC Studios is behind both dramas.
