‘Get Shorty’ Preview: Miles and Amara Clash in the Sept. 3 Episode
There’s no business like show business—just ask Miles (Chris O’Dowd, above right), Get Shorty’s two-bit gangster turned fledgling movie producer. On the September 3 episode, he’ll further establish himself in his new Technicolor world. But keeping his Tinseltown identity separate from his criminal one will prove tricky—especially when clueless coproducer Rick (Ray Romano, above left) unwittingly gets Miles into hot water with their financial backer, vicious mob boss Amara (Lidia Porto). “Amara doesn’t like the idea that Miles could have his own life,” says O’Dowd. “She wants to keep him on quite a tight leash.”
Still, the biggest threat looming on the horizon for Miles may be his own ego, as nascent film project The Admiral’s Mistress begins to pick up steam and build industry buzz. “He’s definitely getting caught up in the allure of the lifestyle—as everyone does when they come to Hollywood initially,” says O’Dowd. “Miles is intoxicated by both the success that he’s having and the trappings that come with it. He starts driving a Tesla!”
