What’s Worth Watching: Defiance Returns for Season 3

Defiance, “The World We Seize/The Last Unicorns” (Friday, June 12, 8/7c, Syfy)

Defiance is hitting the ground running for its Season 3 premiere. Tonight’s intense two-hour premiere picks up seven months after the destructive but world-saving events of last season’s finale. Amanda is back in charge of Defiance – and not exactly doing her best work- while the townsfolk struggle to scrape by after the mine collapse. You’ll see those tensions rise to the surface in more than one way. Also, there’s a new alien race in town: legendary purple Votans called Omecs (with fangs!) who are shaking up life in the decimated McCawley Mines. Not to mention the arrival of a “beastly” General who terrorizes nearly everyone on the outskirts of Defiance with his thirst for human death. Need a silver lining? Daddy-daughter duo Nolan (Grant Bowler) and Irisa (Stephanie Leonidas) are free of their pods and back in action. At least that’s something.
