Forget Oscar moments, even Golden Globe ones. They’ve got nothing on what you hear from Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees—it is, after all, a once-in-a-lifetime occurrence. This year, Yes, Journey, Pearl Jam, Joan Baez (above), Tupac Shakur and Electric Light Orchestra get the rock hardware. (Presenters include Jackson Browne, Neil Young, Snoop Dogg and more.) Other stars ready to take the stage—in addition to the honorees—include Alicia Keys, Mary Chapin Carpenter and Indigo Girls. And Lenny Kravitz has planned a special tribute to his friend Prince. But the one thing not to be missed are those speeches—some weird, some wise, some warm.

“You always hear artists who have been ineligible for a long time say, ‘Oh, getting inducted is not important to us. We don’t care,’” Rock and Roll Hall of Fame CEO Joel Peresman says. “Then that night you see how much they do really care when they get up on stage and say something that’s so heartfelt. You can feel the emotion.”
