What’s Worth Watching: Endless Love for the Next Generation

Endless Love, Saturday, Feb. 28, 8/7c, HBO
The way the trailer for this movie was cut, it felt like a throwback to early ’00s horror films, or possibly a Nicholas Sparks joint with a nasty twist thrown in. Thing is, it’s just a remake of the 1981 Brooke Shields/Tom Cruise vehicle, about a rich girl who falls in love with a bad boy valet. Still, hope springs eternal: We spent the first 90 minutes (of 105 total) convinced that the new producers would somehow subvert the trope, but no, it’s just a standard romance, but with creepy undertones. The way to watch this movie is with an adult beverage and a best friend, taking a swig every time the rich girl’s dad barks at her about how that boy is trouble.
