Detroit Lions All-Pro linebacker Jack Campbell has provided an encouraging update on his health, releasing a statement confirming that he has full movement in his lower body and is making steady progress with his upper body as he recovers from a scary neck injury.

The terrifying moment unfolded on the first play of the fourth quarter during Detroit’s 19-15 victory over the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, November 2. While making a tackle on Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson, Campbell fell face down on the ground and lay motionless, prompting medical professionals to rush onto the field. The game came to a halt for nearly ten minutes as staff carefully evaluated the 26-year-old defensive captain before strapping him to a backboard and loading him onto a cart.

In a show of solidarity, Detroit’s entire team and coaching staff surrounded the cart as he was driven off the field. While Campbell was conscious, alert, and breathing when transported to a local hospital for emergency evaluation, the moment appeared to leave the players and fans at Ford Field shaken. Head coach Dan Campbell and several teammates visited him Sunday night to offer support as preliminary tests got under way.

“I’m incredibly encouraged by the progress I’ve made in such a short period of time,” Campbell said in a statement on Wednesday. “I have full movement in my lower body, and I’m continuing to make progress with movement in my upper body. I know there’s still work ahead, but I remain very optimistic. I’m taking things one day at a time, staying positive, and focusing on getting better.”

Fans quickly showed their support for Campbell on social media following his update. One user wrote on X: “Needed this news today. I didn’t even smile after the win against the Vikes because it didn’t feel like it mattered. Whether Jack plays again or not, I just hope he can live a normal life with his wife and newborn.”

Another fan commented, “Needed to hear this from the man himself. Keep fighting, Jack! Keep praying, folks. It’s working.” Someone else wrote: “As someone who has successfully rehabbed a semi-paralyzed left side (stroke), I know you got this, Jack. Stay strong and know you will be in our prayers.”

“That’s good news. That’s positive news,” Coach Campbell said during a press conference on Wednesday after receiving the update. “We’re all thankful for that.”

The former Iowa standout and first-round draft pick has quickly developed into an anchor of Detroit’s defense, earning All-Pro honors last season after recording over 150 tackles, five sacks, and three forced fumbles.

While he remains under hospital observation for continued monitoring, his positive statement and early signs of physical recovery have brought relief to those in the NFL and fans.
