Baywatch star David Charvet made a rare comment about his ex-wife, Dancing With the Stars alum Brooke Burke, six years after they finalized their divorce.
In the Tuesday, November 3 episode of the Sibling Revelry podcast, Charvet, 54, opened up about his decision to step away from acting in 2013. He and Burke, 42, share two children — a daughter, Heaven, 19, and a son, Shaya, 18 — and finalized their divorce in 2020 after marrying in 2011.
“I promised Brooke at the time that I would be a very present father,” he explained. “I didn’t have that. I had a great stepdad that was always around. My real father and I didn’t have that kind of relationship.”
Charvet explained, “I wanted to be the first person that they saw every morning. I wanted to be the last person that they heard at night before they went to bed. I wanted to be at every single event because I remember sometimes being in a situation where I was at my own events and, you know, I would look around, and there wasn’t certain people there, which was tough.”
He added, “It’s the most beautiful reward to be able to sit today and to see your kids be good human beings.”

Charvet — who played Matt Brody in Baywatch from 1992 to 1995 and Craig Field in Melrose Place from 1996 to 1998 — most recently competed in Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test Season 5, which is currently airing. Meanwhile, Burke won Season 7 of Dancing With the Stars and then co-hosted the show from Seasons 10 to 17. She has also hosted Wild On!, Rock Star, and Penn & Teller: Fool Us.
Baywatch aired for 11 seasons from 1989 to 2001. In January, a Baywatch reboot will premiere, with David Chokachi reprising his role as Cody Madison, Stephen Amell returning as Hobie, and Erika Eleniak returning as Shauni McClain. Charvet has not announced his involvement in the series, which also features Kelly Packard, Michael Bergin, Jessica Belkin, Shay Mitchell, Hassie Harrison, Thaddeus LaGrone, Brooks Nader, Noah Beck, Livvy Dunne, and Nadia Gray.
