  • Jennings admitted the Republicans took a “country ass whooping.”

CNN’s Scott Jennings had no choice but to eat a big slice of humble pie on Tuesday night (November 3) as the midterm election results saw the Democrats take the House and the Senate in a “blue tsunami.”

Jennings joined his colleagues Anderson Cooper, Kasie Hunt, Van Jones, and others for CNN’s coverage of the election results, and he could do nothing but sit there and take it as state after state turned blue. The conservative commentator looked particularly glum as Jones celebrated the Democratic victories.

“This is like Christmas and a birthday and the Easter Bunny and Halloween. This is the repudiation of Trumpism that people have been hoping for,” Jones said, per The Daily Beast.

The liberal commentator went on to compare President Trump to cult leader Jim Jones. “If you join a cult, at some point, the cult leader takes you to Jonestown. And tries to get you to drink the Kool-Aid,” Jones said. “This is Jonestown for the Republican Party.”

Jennings rolled his eyes while Jones continued to draw comparisons to the Jonestown massacre. “They drank the Kool-Aid, and they have candidates that are dropping like flies across the country, because they did not stand up to this guy when he was doing things that were wrong, when he was violating the law, when he was running over our system; they didn’t stand up to him,” Jones stated. “They’re paying their price.”

“It’s a Jonestown tonight,” Jones added. “You join a cult, at some point, you go to Jonestown. That’s where you are tonight, Republicans.”

Cooper then looked to Jennings, joking, “I don’t know if you want to check what’s in your glass, Scott,” referencing the poisoned Kool-Aid that killed the hundreds of Jim Jones followers.

“You realize I’m sitting right here?” Jennings said jokingly as he turned to Jones. “I can hear everything you’re saying. I’ve been here the entire time!”

The MAGA mouthpiece, who was rumored to be a frontrunner for the White House press secretary position, then shared his thoughts on the election results. “Well, look, I’m not gonna sugarcoat it,” he said. “There’s a political science term for what’s happening; it’s called a country ass whooping.”

Hunt interjected, quipping, “I think the modern term, Scott, is BTA,” referring to the “belt to ass” abbreviation often used in sports slang.

As for what went wrong for Republicans, Jennings said the biggest issue is “cost of living and gas prices. And that is the bottom line.” He added, “You can read into a lot of other things. You could be jubilant about this, that, or the other, but at the end of the day, the American people have here and now concerns, and that’s really the lesson you’ve got to take away from this.”
