What To Know

Task star Martha Plimpton shares an update on Season 2’s progress and teases what’s in store.
Find out what she’s sharing about the cast and story for the latest chapter of HBO’s hit crime drama.

Task is gearing up for its Season 2 return at HBO, and star Martha Plimpton is offering a tease of what fans can anticipate as filming continues for the latest chapter of Brad Ingelsby‘s crime drama.

Plimpton, who plays Kathleen McGinty, the boss to FBI agent Tom Brandis (Mark Ruffalo), is just one of the few returning cast members as the show adds a bevy of new performers like Mahershala Ali to its ranks. “I’m here now. I’m here in Philly,” Plimpton tells TV Insider. “We’re shooting it now. We’re in the middle of it.”

Task hails from Ingelsby, who helmed fellow Delco-set series Mare of Easttown, and both worlds collide in Season 2 as Julianne Nicholson returns to reprise her role as Lori from the latter. How she’ll play in the story remains to be seen as plot details remain minimal, but Plimpton offers an exciting tease.

“It’s such an incredible pleasure and joy to be working with Brad Inglesby and Mark Ruffalo again,” Plimpton notes. “I mean, other than Mark and Mark’s two children [played by Silvia Dionicio and Andrew Russel], the cast is completely different this year.”

As for what viewers can expect from those new cast additions, Plimpton says, “We have a whole array of extraordinary actors.” She also offers, “The story is just so rich and complicated and complex. There’s more of us, and I think it’s gonna be really, really cool.”

'Task': Why This Star Won't Be Back for Season 2

No premiere date has been set for the HBO hit’s return, but the ongoing filming hints at a potential for a 2027 debut. For those less acquainted with the drama, Task followed Tom Brandis as he put a task force together to uncover the mystery surrounding a string of Delco-set robberies that put him in the path of Robbie Prendergrast (Tom Pelphrey), a man determined to change his family’s fate.

Where Season 2 will take viewers remains to be seen. In the meantime, stay tuned for updates and news surrounding Task‘s return, and let us know what you’d like to see in the comments section below.
