HGTV’s Mika Kleinschmidt Mourns Loss Amid ‘Rock the Block’ Season 8 Filming

HGTV stars and fans are rallying around Mika Kleinschmidt as she deals with a difficult family loss.

In a Wednesday, October 21, Instagram post, the 100 Day Dream Home star shared that her grandmother had passed away. “Dios la bendiga, abuelita, la vamos a extrañar,” she wrote. “My grandma went with the lord this morning and it breaks my heart to not be in Puerto Rico right now to comfort my mom.”

She added, “Life is so precious and goes too fast. I ask for prayers for our family and grandma may you watch down over us until we meet again.” Kleinschmidt’s post featured two sweet photos of her with her grandmother, including one of her hugging her abuelita.

Several HGTV stars offered their condolences in the post’s comments, including Sarah Baeumler, who wrote, “I’m so sorry for your loss Mika – Sending all our love and prayers to you and your family.” Kleinschmidt shared her appreciation, writing, “Thank you.”

Kleinschmidt also thanked Jenny Marrs for her comment, which read, “I’m deeply sorry, Mika. Praying for your family right now.”

One fan commented, “Sending my deepest heartfelt condolences. I was so close to my maternal grandmother. She was a mother to me. Losing people we love in this physical realm is the most difficult thing about this life. May you find solace in your love and memories until you are fortunate enough to be with her again.”

Another user said, “Dear Mika, I pray that you, your mom and the rest of your family be comforted at this time. It’s heartbreaking to lose of loved one. May you reflect on the wonderful memories you had with your grandmother. Praying for you all.”

Someone else shared, “I’m sorry for your loss Mika our thoughts & prayers & love to you & your family.” A different person posted, “I’m so sorry. May your beautiful abuelita Rest in Peace.” A separate commenter stated, “I’m sorry to read of the loss of your abuelita. My sincerest condolences to you and your family!”

HGTV's Brian & Mika Kleinschmidt Celebrate Sweet Anniversary

Mika’s family loss comes as she and her husband, Brian Kleinschmidt, are in production on Season 8 of HGTV’s Rock the Block. The couple, who won the show’s second season, announced earlier this month that they’re returning to the series alongside old and new contestants.

“Back on the Block to defend our title,” Brian wrote on Instagram on October 6, alongside a Season 8 cast photo. “Let the games begin…”

In addition to host Ty Pennington, the Season 8 cast of Rock the Block includes teams Mina Starsiak Hawk and Scott McGillivray, Paige Davis and Carter Oosterhouse, and Sabrina Soto and Anthony Carrino. For the first time in the show’s history, the new season will take place in Nashville, Tennessee.
