‘Survivor’ Host Jeff Probst Marries Marge Simpson in ‘Simpsons’ Halloween Twist
What To Know
- In The Simpsons‘ “Treehouse of Horror XXXVII,” Marge Simpson cycles through husbands via a magical shed.
- Jeff Probst becomes one of her husbands, portrayed with his signature charm and a Marge tattoo.
Survivor host Jeff Probst has spent decades overseeing contestants finding their perfect matches in alliances, but The Simpsons is giving him an entirely different challenge: Becoming Marge Simpson’s (Julie Kavner) dream man.
The first chapter of “Treehouse of Horror XXXVII” is titled “Bride’s Shed Revisited” and is a parody seemingly inspired by Holly Gramazio’s novel The Husbands — a fantasy about a thirtysomething woman whose attic produces an endless supply of replacement husbands. In it, Probst makes an unexpected appearance as Marge’s ultimate romantic upgrade, complete with his trademark laid-back charm and a tribal-style tattoo of his new bride, and a marriage that doesn’t quite make it to the final Tribal Council.
The story begins when Homer (Dan Castellaneta) and Marge are in the early years of their marriage, before the kids, it seems. Homer fails to build Marge the shed he promised for their first wedding anniversary. After a miffed Marge builds it herself, an argument sends Homer into the shed, where he magically transforms into Lenny (Harry Shearer).
Suddenly, Marge has a new husband, a new house, and even new wedding photos. Another trip through the shed turns Lenny into Chief Wiggum (Hank Azaria), prompting Marge to investigate her strange new reality.
In this alternate universe, Marge’s best friend, Tiffany Haddish, explains that Marge has essentially won the romance lottery and can trade up whenever she wants. Naturally, Marge takes full advantage, trying out Ned Flanders, Captain McCallister, Kang and Kodos, Principal Skinner, Moe, and Comic Book Guy before finally hitting the romantic jackpot with Probst.

The Survivor host proves to be quite the devoted husband, even sporting a massive tribal-style tattoo of Marge across his chest. Unfortunately, though, even the king of Survivor can’t outwit, outplay, and outlast Homer Simpson.
After spotting her former husband with Lunchlady Dora (Tress MacNeille), Marge accidentally calls out Homer’s name during the “merging of the tribes” with Probst, sending a heartbroken host running. Hoping to make things right, Marge sends Jeff into the “Shed of Destiny” to cast his vote, only for Hans Moleman to emerge in his place. Apparently, Jeff’s torch has officially been snuffed.

Desperate to reunite with Homer, Marge takes him hostage with a shotgun and forces him into the shed with her. The plan works, and Homer reveals that he’s had his own bizarre romantic journey, including marriages to Helen Lovejoy, Lunchlady Dora, Crazy Cat Lady, and, in one final twist, Jeff Probst himself.
With Homer and Marge finally reunited, everything seems perfect… until their sons, Rod and Todd, are preparing to punish their “sinning” parents with shotguns.
(Fun note: Probst is credited as Jeff “The Tribe Has Spookin'” Probst, becoming part of a long Simpsons Halloween tradition of creating creepy credits. )
