Troy Aikman and Michael Irvin’s chemistry on the football field is known to the public, but a podcast anecdote highlighted just how different the ex-Dallas Cowboys players really were off the field.
During an appearance on the Rodeo Time with Dale Brisby podcast, the Hall of Fame quarterback shared a story from his bachelor days. Aikman reminisced about a time he came home late one night to find two female fans taking an uninvited dip in his backyard swimming pool.
He handled the unexpected midnight intrusion by calling the authorities.
“I was single, I was living by myself at my house, and I came home, and I had two fans, two female fans, that were swimming in my pool in my backyard,” Aikman recalled on the podcast. “I called the police and just said, ‘Hey, I’ve got some intruders, and somebody could come take care of this.’”

“[Michael] Irvin laughs. He said the police would have been the last people he was calling, which is a pretty good indication of Michael and I being a little different.”

When Aikman later retold the incident to Irvin, his reaction was far different. According to Aikman, Irvin burst out laughing and told him that calling the police would have been the last thing on his mind—highlighting the contrast between the two teammates’ personalities.
When the clip recirculated on social media this week, fans flooded the post with comments about the contrast between the two. One user wrote: “One guy has self-control and the other doesn’t lol.”
Another commented, “This is why Irvin be getting into the situations he be getting into. SMH,” while someone else wrote: “Michael heard “two women in my pool” and couldn’t believe Troy saw that as an emergency.”
While Aikman opted for law enforcement over a backyard hangout, the throwback reminded fans why the duo remains a dynamic one in NFL history, both on and off the field.
Aikman himself has enjoyed more peaceful and quieter days in his personal life. Despite his contract extension with ESPN currently sitting in limbo, he recently had a romantic dinner with his girlfriend, Marisa Howard, to celebrate her birthday.
