What To Know
- Ellen DeGeneres made a rare TV appearance on The Graham Norton Show.
- She admitted she misses hosting her own talk show and hinted at possibly launching her own U.K. television project.
- Since ending her talk show in 2022 amid workplace allegations, DeGeneres has kept a low profile.
Four years after ending her self-titled talk show, Ellen DeGeneres made a rare TV appearance on The Graham Norton Show on Friday and admitted she missed hosting a show of her own.
“I’ve nothing really going on, and I really miss being on TV,” DeGeneres said on the British talk show, per People. “I miss a lot about it — laughing with the writers and the audience.”
(Friday’s episode of The Graham Norton Show is not currently streaming in the United States, but you can see DeGeneres on Graham Norton’s couch alongside fellow guests Quentin Tarantino, Colin Farrell, and Gemma Chan in the clip below.)
DeGeneres, who moved to England with wife Portia de Rossi in 2024, observed on the talk show how it’s easy to get on television in the United Kingdom.
“I just called you up and said, ‘I have nothing to promote. Can I just come sit on the couch?’” she reminded Norton. “And you were like, ‘Yeah.’”
The Finding Nemo star also said she thinks about mounting a U.K. television project of her own.
“You have a pottery show, you have a sewing show, and you even have a show about people watching TV shows,” she said, referencing The Great Pottery Throw Down, The Great British Sewing Bee, and Gogglebox.
And DeGeneres joked she could launch a TV show about absent-mindedly mowing the lawn. “I could call it Lawn and Order,” she added.
DeGeneres got her start as a stand-up comedian before finding widespread fame — and coming out as gay in an episode that earned her a writing Emmy — on the ’90s sitcom Ellen.
She debuted her talk show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, in 2003 and went on to win 32 Daytime Emmys for her work on the show, which ended in 2022, shortly after staffers lodged toxic-workplace allegations against its producers.
DeGeneres has kept a low profile since, but she’s set to voice the blue tang fish Dory again in a Finding Nemo short for Pixar, Deadline reported this April.
