The Chicks’ Natalie Maines Sparks White House Reaction After Comparing Trump to George W. Bush
What To Know
- The White House slammed The Chicks’ frontwoman Natalie Maines after she expressed shame over President Trump.
- Maines, who criticized George W. Bush in 2003, said she refuses to stay silent on political matters.
- Public reaction to Maines’ latest comments was mixed.
The White House hasn’t taken kindly to comments The Chicks’ frontwoman Natalie Maines made at a recent concert, where she said she is ashamed of President Donald Trump.
“Natalie Maines is a despicable nobody who clearly suffers from a severe case of Trump Derangement Syndrome that has rotted her peanut-sized brain,” the White House said in a statement to Fox News Digital.
This came after The Chicks kicked off their Taking the Long Way 20th Anniversary Tour in Manhattan this week. According to Billboard, the band played a video montage of political pundits losing their minds over the idea that someone might not like a sitting president.
After the montage finished, Maines said she would “never” submit to the “shut up and sing” brigade. “We thought that was the worst it could get,” she continued, referencing her criticism of George W. Bush in 2003. “Now I’d give George Bush a big wet kiss. Because now we’re ashamed the president of the United States is from the United States.”
Maines landed herself in hot water back in 2003 when she publicly disagreed with the Iraq War. “Just so you know, we do not want this war, this violence, and we’re ashamed that the President of the United States is from Texas,” she said, referring to Bush.
Reactions to Maines’ latest comments about Trump were mixed, with many praising her and others telling her to stick to music.
“Still hasn’t learned after 20 plus years. Just entertain, that’s all you need to do,” wrote one X user.
“Dang, she is trying to ruin her career again,” said another.
“I’m so tired if hearing about entertainers’ political opinions. Shut up and play music. We don’t care about your opinion,” another added.
One Instagram commenter showed their support, writing, “Thank you for always standing your ground. I’m very proud of the person you are.”
“You’re amazing, and fierce and no one can’t take that away,” said another.
“You stood up for yourself which is hard to do publicly. But you did it and continue to do it, which then trickles down to us. Thank you,” one commenter added.
“Forever my inspiration. We love you,” added another.
Another wrote, “It was the correct thing to say back then and is definitely the correct thing to say now. Bravo Chicks.”
Maines previously provoked the White House’s ire in May when she unleashed a rant about Trump on Instagram. “Our democracy is disappearing right before our eyes. This fugly slut is using your gas money to pay the insurrectionists,” she wrote. “But don’t worry about it. I’m sure posting selfies will fix everything.”
She added, “My last post that called him a fugly slut got removed. We’ll see how long this one lasts. Repost and help the message live.”
At the time, the White House responded with the same “peanut-sized brain” retort.
