What To Know

  • Ella Langley responded after The Voice coach Riley Green appeared to take credit for her success.
  • Fans were divided over Green’s comments, with some defending him and others supporting Langley.
  • Langley’s “Choosin’ Texas” recently became the longest-running number-one song in US Billboard history.

Country star Ella Langley hasn’t taken kindly to comments from The Voice coach Riley Green on a recent episode of the singing competition, where he seemed to take credit for her success.

Green, who joined as a coach for The Voice‘s 30th season, made the comment on the September 22 episode when trying to persuade country duo Ferryn & Brinkley to join his team. “There was a girl that reminded me a lot of y’all. I took her on tour with me. Her name’s Ella Langley. She’s doing pretty well,” Green said.

The comment obviously made an impression because Ferryn & Brinkley ultimately chose Green as their coach despite also receiving chair turns from fellow coaches Kelly Clarkson, Queen Latifah, and Adam Levine.

But it also had an impact on Langley, who responded to the comment after a fan brought it up during a recent Instagram Live. “When Riley took credit for your success on The Voice, did that rub you the wrong way?!” one fan asked during the live stream.

“Yeah, when that man took credit? No, didn’t love that, but typical,” the “Choosin’ Texas” hitmaker replied. “Typical. Pretty typical.”

According to Us Weekly, Langley also unfollowed Green on social media.

Fans shared their reactions to the spat on Instagram, with one commenter writing, “I’d say he didn’t directly take credit for her success, people just get upset because that’s how they perceive it.”

“If it wasnt for him having her on tour she wouldn’t have become a superstar,” said another.

Another added, “I think fame and fortune is going to Ella’s head honestly. Stay humble, Ella, please stay humble.”

“All he said was that this person reminded him of someone who he toured with. NOT I am the reason Ella Langley is famous. Everyone chill,” said another.

“Ella Langley catapulted his career. Count your awards Ella won for you Riley,” one user added.

“I didn’t know who Riley Green was until I learned wo Ella Langley is,” another wrote.

Langley and Green first collaborated on the 2024 track “you look like you love me,” which went double-platinum and won Musical Event of the Year at the 2024 Country Music Association Awards. Langley also opened for Green on his Ain’t My Last Rodeo tour in 2024.

The pair dueted again in 2025 on “Don’t Mind If I Do,” the title track of Green’s third studio album. Langley again opened for Green for his Damn Country Music tour in 2025.

However, Langley also found her own success in 2024 after releasing her debut studio album, Hungover. The record produced the hits “You Look Like You Love Me” and “Weren’t for the Wind,” both of which topped the Country Airplay charts.

Earlier this year, Langley released her second album, Dandelion, which topped the US Billboard 200. Its lead single, “Choosin’ Texas,” has broken all sorts of records, including the longest-running number-one song in US Billboard Hot 100 history. Langley is also the first female artist to top the US Hot 100, Hot Country Songs, and Country Airplay charts at the same time.
