Fox News: Laura Ingraham Reacts After Dr. Oz Seems Clueless on Grocery Prices
What To Know
- Fox News anchor Laura Ingraham fact-checked Dr. Mehmet Oz on live TV.
- Dr. Oz claimed that a stick of butter costs about a dollar during a discussion on price transparency in healthcare.
- The exchange sparked reactions online, with many viewers criticizing Dr. Oz as out of touch.
Fox News anchor Laura Ingraham fact-checked Dr. Mehmet Oz live on air on Monday (October 5) as the pair discussed the Trump administration’s plans to make hospital prices more transparent for patients.
“The common sense is, we should know what things cost, okay?” Ingraham said on Monday’s edition of The Ingraham Angle, per Mediaite. “We wanna know what we’re paying. What the heck is going on, and how can you guys tackle this?”
Dr. Oz, who serves as Trump’s Medicare and Medicaid administrator, said that in healthcare the prices are “written in invisible ink, so you have no idea what things are going to cost.”
“I brought you something as an example,” he continued, pointing to some items on the table. “We went grocery shopping… stick of butter, bag of peanuts. Butter in America, it’s about a buck for a stick like this. If I charge you 10 dollars…”
Ingraham cut Dr. Oz off, responding, “Where are you shopping? It’s not a buck. It’s like four.”
“Well, I just bought this, so it’s close to that,” Dr. Oz replied. “Maybe it’s going bad.”

“Okay, a Mamdani store you bought it at,” Ingraham quipped, referencing New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani‘s plans to open five city-owned grocery stores offering prices at 30 percent below standard retail prices.
Dr. Oz continued to make his point despite being fact-checked by Ingraham, adding, “So, you buy the stick of butter, and you buy it for the right price. In healthcare, we’re not doing this. This stick of butter could cost anything. You have no idea until after you’ve already made the purchase.”
As noted by Mediaite, the butter Dr. Oz showed in the clip is from Trader Joe’s and is listed at $4.99 on the company’s website.
Fans weighed in on social media, with many calling Dr. Oz out of touch and others expressing surprise that the usually MAGA-friendly Ingraham fact-checked him on air. One X user wrote, “When Fox News fact checks you and then you look like a fool…”
“Even @IngrahamAngle is finally putting down the MAGA Kool-Aid. Things must be really bad for MAGA right now,” said another.
“I’m not a follower, but that is the first serious question I have seen her ask,” added one viewer.
“‘About a buck’. With the word ‘about’ meaning ‘Well I was talking about a single stick of butter although nobody buys butter by the stick but usually in boxes of 4, and that box is upward of $4’. Dr Oz is either an oblivious idiot or a scammer. You decide,” wrote one commenter.
“No retail chain sells a single individual stick of butter, so what the f*** is Oz talking about,” another added.
Another wrote, “In most cases not even a stick of butter is a dollar.”
“He has not been to a grocery store. Ever,” said one viewer.

He put his foot in it, too, when he was running for senator here in PA, referring to "crudite" in one of his "down-to-earth" campaign ads. Fetterman had that delicious comeback, saying we call that a "veggie tray." Dr. Oz has no idea what it's like for people who aren't rich. As for Fetterman... What might have been.
