Isaiah Washington is letting fans in on his family’s grief, more than a year after the death of his wife, Jenisa Washington.

In an Instagram post on Saturday, October 3, the former Grey’s Anatomy star confirmed Jenisa died more than a year ago.

“Yes… the rumors are true. My dear wife of 29 years collapsed suddenly on May 31, 2025, and passed away on June 9, 2025,” Isaiah wrote. “It came as a huge shock to me and our entire family. She succumbed to a massive hemorrhagic stroke and never recovered.”

The actor shared a warning for fans: “Listen, y’all… some headaches are not just headaches or migraines, they can be much worse and a warning sign,” he said. “Get a brain scan if you can and take those headaches seriously.”

He added, “She has been gone 16 months now, but she left 3 incredibly amazing children behind to continue her legacy. I don’t know if this is an appropriate post, because Jenisa Washington was extremely private, but I guess I just have to be reprimanded from her on the other side.”

Fellow Hollywood stars chimed in with condolences in the comments. “It is appropriate, brother,” Michael Beach wrote. “We all need to pay better attention to what we are going through physically and mentally. Love to you and your family.”

Viola Davis wrote, “So very sorry, Isaiah.”

And Tichina Arnold commented, “You already know IW. Always love for you [and] your tribe. Asé.”

Jenisa was a fashion designer who met Isaiah at a dinner party in Los Angeles and married him on Valentine’s Day 1996, according to Us Weekly. The couple welcomed three children: Tyme, Iman, and Isaiah V.

Isaiah, who announced his retirement from acting in 2023 but has since appeared in films including James the Second, Dashing Through the Snow, and Oscar Shaw, praised his family life in a 2022 Fox News Digital interview.

“For me, being married and having children did change a lot of my trajectory,” he said at “the time. “That’s why I didn’t want to get married 25 years ago, but I’m glad I did because the wife and children really make you the best human being that you can be.”
