‘Scrubs’ Boss Previews Scott Foley’s Return as Sean: ‘He’s So Watchable’
What To Know
- Scrubs showrunner Aseem Batra teases Scott Foley’s return as Sean.
- Find out what’s in store as Elliott’s old flame makes a comeback.
Scrubs is back, and while Season 2 of the revival has already given us time with fan favorites like J.D. (Zach Braff), Turk (Donald Faison), Elliott (Sarah Chalke), Carla (Judy Reyes), Doctor Cox (John C. McGinley), and more, one particular individual was missing in the premiere: Sean (Scott Foley).
As fans know, he’s slated to make a comeback this season, shaking things up at Sacred Heart Hospital when he crosses paths with his on-again-off-again ex, Elliott. Sure, he’s not a doc, but the marine biologist was a welcome mainstay on the show’s original run, ultimately as a tormentor of J.D., who was bothered by his good guy vibe when he was also in love with Elliott.
Although showrunner Aseem Batra didn’t reveal when Sean will show up, she did offer a few exciting words to tease his arrival and the dynamic fans will see unfold onscreen. “All I can say is Scott Foley is as dynamic as he always was. He’s so watchable, so funny, and he and J.D. and Elliott play so well together,” Batra says.

“It was seriously one of the most exciting things to have him back,” she adds, saying, “It felt like going back in time. So it’s great.”
Foley is just the latest OG cast member to make a comeback after the aforementioned characters, as well as Christa Miller‘s Jordan, Neil Flynn‘s Janitor, Robert Maschio‘s The Todd, and Phill Lewis‘s Hooch.
And it has since been reported that Johnny Kastl will reprise his role as inept Doc Doug, but Ken Jenkins, who made an impression as Doctor Kelso, will not.
As we gear up for Foley’s return, Batra’s words definitely offer excitement surrounding his return, as it’s been nearly 20 years since he appeared as Sean onscreen. Foley originated the role in 2002 and primarily appeared in Seasons 1 and 3 of the original show’s run, before popping up in a Season 8 episode in 2009.
