’99 to Beat’ Fans Think Team Games ‘Aren’t Fair’ and Want These Changes

Everyone is out for themselves on 99 to Beat, but when it comes to team challenges, the contestants have to work together. Fans have suggested that changes should be made to the team challenges in Season 2, as many say they “aren’t fair.”

Each episode, which is cohosted by Erin Andrews and Ken Jeong, has the game show contestants participating in five games — four solo ones and one team one. Whichever team loses the challenge is eliminated from the game, which gets rid of a big number of contestants. The last person standing after 99 contestants are eliminated takes home $1 million.

On the premiere episode, the team challenge consisted of contestants putting popcorn into a bowl and dumping it over their head into the next teammate’s bowl. This process went down the line until the last person, who had to dump the remaining popcorn into the container at the end of the line. Whichever team was the last to fill up their container to the line was eliminated.

This caused many problems because some people weren’t paying attention while others were just dumping the popcorn willy-nilly, causing much of the popcorn to spill out. Reddit users expressed their dismay about the challenges on the platform.

“Team challenges. One year ago, people were complaining about them in here. Well, I watched the first episode to see if they’re back. Sure enough. Stupidest way to eliminate a bunch of contestants because of the incompetence of one of them. Why do this? To aggravate viewers? It’s as if none of the producers ever played a game or watched sports,” the Reddit user posted.

“Do agree that it’s very unfair. Lauren was one of the frontrunners, always finishing near the top in every single competition, and she only got eliminated because that woman behind her was s**t at catching the popcorn,” a user commented.

One fan said that picking the teams earlier that the biggest bone they have to pick. “It may cost time, but the teams should not be random. Having some sort of selection process would help ease the pain,” they commented.

Another fan suggested having a multi-round team challenge. “I’m fine with team games. I just think they shouldn’t eliminate the whole team. Instead, they should have a second round where they face off in a similar challenge and the last to finish is the only one to go home,” they said.

“I do agree there needs to be some sort of second round or secondary method,” a fan agreed.
