‘Today’: Dylan Dreyer & Craig Melvin Crack Up at Embarrassing Show Gaffe

Today Show anchors Dylan Dreyer and Craig Melvin were so confused about an embarrassing show gaffe on Wednesday (September 30). The live show saw a crew member appear on camera, which caused the hosts to crack up and the guest to be confused.

The third hour of the morning show was brought to a halt on Wednesday, when Dr. Natalie Azar appeared to talk about a new weight loss drug. As the doctor spoke, a woman who usually doesn’t appear on TV was seen walking on screen in the background.

“I just totally lost my train of thought,” Dr. Azar stammered when she saw the woman.

Dreyer assured the doctor that it wasn’t her fault, saying, “Well, Cecilia just walked behind you,” referring to Senior Producer Cecilia Fang, who has worked for the network since 2000.

Dr. Azar tried to regain her thoughts and get back into the segment when she was interrupted again, but this time by Melvin. “Is that someone on the floor?” he asked.

“What’s happening?” the doctor asked with a laugh.

“Our senior producer Cecilia Fang walked in,” their cohost and meteorologist Al Roker explained. The cameras then cut to Fang crouching down, trying to hide, and rushing off set. She had a phone in her hand, but it was not clear what she was trying to do. “She’s also in the witness protection program. So she didn’t realize she was on camera,” he joked.

Melvin, who also hosts the main show, shook his head and said he had “never seen that” in his whole career. “This place,” he joked with a head shake.

Roker apologized to Dr. Azar, who shook off the embarrassing moment with a laugh. The doctor admitted that she thought something was going on with her.  “I thought something happened. I thought my blouse opened,” she said.

“No, she just forgot we do live TV every morning at the same time,” Melvin said, teasing Fang.

“But please stand by because there might be a patient who died of embarrassment,” Roker joked to Dr. Azar.

According to LinkedIn, Fang has worked for NBC since 2000. She became an Associate Producer in 2004. Then, a Producer in 2006 and the Senior Producer in 2021. So, she should know about being on live TV.
