Raoni Barcelos Speaks Out After Terrifying UFC Vegas 121 Collapse

Raoni Barcelos is finally breaking his silence and offering reassurance to fans after a scary conclusion to his fight at UFC Vegas 121 that was broadcast live.

Following a battle at the Meta APEX in Las Vegas, Barcelos, 39, shared a video update from his hospital bed confirming he is doing well and plans to come back even stronger.

The scare came at the tail end of a clash against 21-year-old rising star Raul Rosas Jr.

During the September 26 fight, both competitors entered the Octagon following a series of impressive winning streaks, and the bout lived up to its billing as both took turns back and forth getting solid blows in. Barcelos put on a strong performance, navigating the action and holding his own against the young grappler through the first four rounds. However, the momentum shifted in the fifth round.

During a takedown sequence during the final round, Barcelos suddenly collapsed and appeared completely unresponsive. The referee immediately stepped in to wave off the bout, handing Rosas a TKO victory. The atmosphere inside the arena quickly turned somber as medical personnel rushed into the cage, placed the fighter onto a stretcher, and evacuated him as worried attendees looked on. Following his win, Rosas Jr. urged everyone to pray for Barcelos while on camera.

Subsequent updates from the promotion and Barcelos himself confirmed that he is stable, alert, and responsive with full movement. Taking to social media from his hospital bed, Barcelos expressed profound gratitude for the outpouring of love and prayers.

“I’m here to send you a message and let you know that I’m doing well,” Barcelos says in Portuguese.I’m doing really well and undergoing all the exams here at the hospital. This is just the hospital’s protocol, so I have to go through all of them. That’s it, guys. I want to thank everyone for all the prayers and all the kind messages. Please keep sending that positive energy.”

Though he will need to clear standard medical protocols before returning to action, it appears Barcelos is in high spirits and already looking forward to the next fight.

“Thank you UFC for all the support, my family, my team and every single person who’s cheering and praying for me. I love you guys! Let’s go through it together,” Barcelos wrote in the caption of the video. “And like a fine wine, I’ll come back even better.”

Fans and fellow fighters have been quick to rally behind Barcelos. Underneath the same post, many comments showed their support for the fighter, wishing him a speedy and healthy recovery.
